Race 1 - Angela Barton Training Stables SV 3YO F Maiden Plate - 1100m

Momma Smash jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start Honong Lass was tightened for room between Gold Admire, which shifted out slightly and Toyelle, which was taken in by Sadie's Ace (G. Mathrick), which shifted in at that stage. G. Mattrick was notified to exercise far more care when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the 700 metres Honong Lass, which was racing greenly, had to be eased to avoid the heels of Strictly Speaking (NZ), which shifted in slightly.

G. Eades rider of Gaelic Waltz stated to the Stewards that the filly failed to stretch out at any stage during the race and for this reason he eased Gaelic Waltz down in the straight. A Veterinary examination of Gaelic Waltz subsequent to the event revealed the filly was showing signs of shin soreness.

Race 2 - Peter Morgan Training Stables Maiden Plate (1) - 1200m -

Acting on a report from the Starter that Curving had proved difficult to be loaded into its stall, Stewards notified Tony Carter-Smith, trainer of the mare, that an official warning would be placed against Curving and should the mare behave in a similar manner in future it may lead to some action being taken. Tony Carter-Smith was further notified that before the mare would be permitted to start again he must be in receipt of a Barrier Certificate.

Nincompoop jumped away awkwardly.

In the middle stages of the race That's A Rap raced greenly.

Approaching the winning post Nincompoop had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run.

Race 3 - Craig Stott Training Stables Maiden Plate (2) - 1200m

Braemore was slow to begin.

Approaching the home turn Shameful Outlook was held up for a run.

Race 4 - Central Ford SV 3YO Maiden Plate - 1600m

Prior to correct weight Eddie Cassar rider of Rich Nugget, 4th placegetter, wished to view the photo finish print for 3rd. After viewing the print Eddie Cassar agreed with the Judge's placings.

Also prior to correct weight, Stewards viewed the start of the race to ascertain whether Capetown Kid had gained an unfair advantage on jumping away.

After taking evidence from Ricky Cartwright, rider of Capetown Kid, Starter Paul Didham and Assistant Starter, Ian McIntosh, it was established that just prior to the Starter releasing the field, Capetown Kid dived forward forcing its gate open.

Capetown Kid then sprawled losing a little ground.

As the Stewards believed that Capetown Kid did not gain an unfair advantage they declared the race a race and correct weight.

Approaching the 1200 metres Striking Bob had to be eased off the heels of Geiger Tiger, which shifted in.

Near the 400 metres Wild Waters and Capetown Kid, which had commenced to weaken, were tightened for room by Rich Nugget (Eddie Cassar), which shifted in. Shortly after this Chadman, which was following, accidentally clipped the heels of Capetown Kid, which shifted out slightly when weakening. Eddie Cassar was notified to exercise far more care when shifting ground in future.

Throughout the race Striking Bob hung out.

Rikki Cartwright rider of Capetown Kid, stated to the Stewards he eased the gelding down after passing the 400 metres as in his opinion there was something amiss with the gelding's action. A subsequent Veterinary examination of Capetown Kid revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5 - Foster's Light Ice Class 1 Handicap - 16000m

Cautionary jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Portland Place. Zed Express also jumped away awkwardly and shortly after the start took Cautionary out on to Portland Place.

Approaching the 400 metres Portland Place was momentarily held up for a run.

Brad Rawiller rider of Zed Express, which had performed below expectations stated to the Stewards that the gelding did not travel throughout the race and failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A Veterinary examination of Zed Express subsequent to the event revealed no abnormalities.

Subsequent to the event the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that Snack Attack had suffered a small wound to the off hock.

Race 6 - Weary Dunlop Medical Research Class 4 Handicap - 1600m -

Rounding the home turn Exotic Dreams was held up for a run.

Craig Stott trainer of Seaview Symphony, the winner of the race, when questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding, compared to its last start at Geelong, stated to the Stewards that at Geelong the gelding drew wide and does not have early pace, and in his opinion Seaview Symphony did not handle the track conditions on the day. Craig Stott further stated that the gelding drew an inside barrier today and was able to race in a more forward position.

Race 7 - Carlton Draught F & M Class 2 Handicap - 1100m

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from John Salanitri trainer of Are You Serious that the filly was lame and unfit to start, Stewards withdrew Are You Serious at 10.30 a.m. Mr. Salanitri will submit a Veterinary Certificate in respect of the filly.

On jumping away I'm A Cadet was tightened for room between Get Down, which shifted out and Dame Harris, which shifted in. Shortly after this Get Down had to be eased when tightened for room between Urgent Action and I'm A Cadet, which was taken in by Dame Harris, who in turn was taken in by Canchita, which shifted in slightly. Also shortly after the start Miss Knockout had to be eased to avoid the heels of Canchita.

During the running of the race I'm A Cadet suffered a bleeding attack.

Race 8 - P.O.W. Class 3 Handicap - 1900m

Approaching the home turn and over the concluding stages of the race Salerno (NZ) had difficulty in obtaining a clear run.

Race 9 - Kilmore Trackside Tabaret Maiden Plate - 1900m

Colin Dean rider of Carte D'Or, which performed below expectations, stated to the Stewards that the filly over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race and failed to respond to his riding in the straight.

After passing the winning post the first time, Sanderae Lass was tightened for room by Carte D'Or, which was taken in by Trying To be Good.

After passing the 200 metres Bonoval had to be checked when tightened for room betweenSanderae Lass, which shifted under pressure and It's Simple (D. O'Heare), which shifted out. Shortly after this Bonoval then obtained a run on the inside of It's Simple. It's Simple then shifted in slightly which resulted in Bonoval having to change course to obtain a clear run. D. O'Heare was notified that he must stop riding and straighten his mounts in future.

Swab samples were taken from the following winners - That's A Rap (Race 1), Culzean (Race 3), Canchita (Race 7), Big Bonus (Race 9)

A random swab was taken from Cautionary (Race 5) which was unplaced

FINES

Cliff Brown trainer of Mesmerised (Race 3) was fined the sum of $30 for using wrong colours on the filly.
