Partelle explained that as the gelding had pulled up well after that run and had pleased in its work during the week and it was for this reason he backed up Entertaining within five days. He said that, as instanced in the Stewards report from that day, he believed the disappointing performance could be attributed directly to the horse getting its tongue over the bit. She said, however, that this did not eventuate and as she had committed herself to the inside of that horse's heels she was held up for a run when awkwardly placed on the heels of that horse and consequently was unable to obtain clear passage in the straight and went to the line untested.

Shortly after the start Act Natural was crowded between My Brown Eyed Girl and Mr. Attorney, which shifted in. Blazing Arch was unable to obtain clear running in the straight. When asked about the disappointing performance of My Brown Eyed Girl, D. Beadman said that the mare may not have been suited by the step-up in distance at this stage of her preparation. He said that although he received some tightening by Nabob, which, after improving to the inside of the heels of Mr. Attorney, shifted in near the 800m, and again when Nabob shifted in passing the 200m his mount was nonetheless disappointing in its failure to finish off its race.
