Weather: Fine
Track: Good

RACE 1: ST. MATTHEW'S PRIMARY SCHOOL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M:

Acting on veterinary advice that War and Peace was unfit to start, Stewards permitted the withdrawal of the gelding at 8.14 a.m.

Riviera Playboy was slow to begin.

Machiko was slow to begin and hampered shortly after when Mt. Gower shifted in.

For some distance in the middle stages Riviera Playboy raced ungenerously and was steadied from the heels of Monte Drift.

For some distance after the 200m, when attempting a run to the outside of Chatswood Chase (B. Cooper), Riviera Playboy was held up on the heels of that runner as it continued to shift out. B. Cooper was advised to exercise more care. In this incident Snow Lodge, which was following, was hampered in consequence.

A post-race veterinary examination of Machiko, which tailed off, did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr M. Johnston was advised that Machiko must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to start again.

Royal Dancer hung in in the early part of the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of Royal Dancer did not reveal any abnormality. Geldoff hung in badly under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out. A post-race

veterinary examination of Volcanic Scene did not reveal any abnormality.

Mr Craig was further advised to submit the results of an endoscopy examination immediately following the barrier trial.

After the race it was noted that Gilded Armour had lost its off hind plate.
