Race 1 - WALKER'S EARTHWORKS HURDLE (3100
METRES)
During the running of the race OUR RAAMI GUEST suffered a
bleeding attack.
On return to scale DÉTENTE ,which had been pulled up by
its rider near the 600 metres was found to be lame in the near fore leg. Mr. D. Brown
Trainer of DÉTENTE was notified that prior to the gelding being permitted to start again
he must be in receipt of a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness.
Near the 500 metres CROWN DUO (NZ) had to change course
after being disappointed for a run between VOODOO SUNSET and JETHRO.
On return to scale PURPLE BEAU (NZ) was found to be lame in
the near fore leg. Mrs. K. Durden Trainer of PURPLE BEAU (NZ) was notified that prior to
the gelding being permitted to start again she must be in receipt of a Veterinary
Certificate of Fitness.
Mr. D. McCabe Trainer of PRIDE'S ARMY which performed in an
uncompetitive manner was notified that the gelding would not be permitted to start in a
jumping race until such time as PRIDE'S ARMY schools to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
Mr. J. McArthur Trainer of BONHOMME DE NEIGE which
performed in an uncompetitive manner was notified that the gelding would not be permitted
to start in a jumping race until such time as BONHOMME DE NEIGE schools to the
satisfaction of the Stewards.
Race 2 - HAYMES PAINT PERMEWANS SUPER
VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)
REIGNSTAR was slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages of the race TAMMIVAN raced
ungenerously.
LADY CRACKERJACK ,which had been held up rounding the home
turn shifted out and bumped DE MILO. LADY CRACKERJACK then had difficulty obtaining a
clear run in the early part of the straight.
Approaching the 200 metres BIG KID ,which had a tendency to
lay in was held up for a run. After passing the 200 metres POLYDUNK which was weakening
had to be eased to avoid the heels of LADY CRACKERJACK which shifted in.
Subsequent to the event REIGNSTAR which finished a distant
last was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who reported that the filly was
suffering from shin soreness.
Race 3 - WARBURTON CONSTRUCTIONS
THREE-YEARS-OLD & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)
Shortly after the start LOCHINVALE (NZ) was hampered by BIG
MOVE which shifted in. Shortly after this incident LOCHINVALE (NZ) which was racing
between BIG MOVE and DAPPER LAD shifted in abruptly and had to be checked off the heels of
BIG MOVE. BELZUMA which was following was hampered in consequence.
After passing the 600 metres BIG MOVE shifted in and
tightened RENT FREE resulting in that filly having to be checked. BIG MOVE then shifted
out and hampered LOCHINVALE (NZ).
Prior to straightening TARA'S SONG shifted in towards the
running rail and became unbalanced.
Mr. M. Lewis Trainer of RUMAH BATIK, the winner, was
questioned regarding the marked improved performance of the filly today as opposed to its
previous start at Murtoa. Mr. Lewis explained that the filly had shown ability and worked
well throughout its preparation. Mr. Lewis added that with the addition of blinkers and
tongue-tie for the first time along with a schooling session in a bullring this week may
have accounted for RUMAH BATIK'S improved performance. Mr.Lewis further added that the
connections had moderately supported RUMAH BATIK today.
RENT FREE which was eased down by its rider in the home
straight was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who reported no apparent
abnormalities.
Race 4 - ROBCO CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400
METRES)
No report.
Race 5 - TAMMI HENSLEIGH HANDICAP (1200
METRES)
W. Hokai, rider of SCENIC GARDEN was severely reprimanded
for shifting out near the 200 metres when not sufficiently clear of I'M HONOR HIGH (NZ)
resulting in that horse being taken out off its course.
S. Harrison, rider of MOSSITON was severely reprimanded for
failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. In arriving at their decision it was
the Stewards' belief that S. Harrison's actions had not affected the placings.
When asked if he could explain the improved performance of
INKAMULLA (NZ) Mr. J. O'Connor Trainer of the gelding stated that its previous poor run at
Oakbank was totally out of character for the horse. Mr. O'Connor added that INKAMULLA (NZ)
had worked and trialled well in the lead up to this event and for this reason he gave the
gelding a good winning chance.
Race 6 - JOHN HUNT AUTO SPARES CLASS 3
HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Near the 1400 metres PODGY BLEU shifted in and bumped OLD
DUNCAN.
On return to scale PODGY BLEU ,which had performed poorly
was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who reported that the gelding was showing
signs of abdominal pain.
Race 7 - CARLTON DRAUGHT OPEN HANDICAP
(1600 METRES)
UMANOOLA was slow to begin.
Race 8 - HAMILTON SPECTATOR CLASS 4
HANDICAP (2200 METRES)
After being placed in the barrier PETITE JEUNE FILLE broke
through its front gate and cantered a short distance. PETITE JEUNE FILLE was returned to
the barriers and re-boxed.
AEROLON bounded in the air when the gates were released and
lost ground.
Shortly after the start TARTAN RIBOT had to be checked when
tightened for room between PETITE JEUNE FILLE and STALKING HORSE which shifted in.
D. Holland, rider of APOLLO'S GHOST (4th place
getter) was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
In arriving at their decision it was the Stewards' belief that D. Holland's action had not
affected the placings.
Near the 1800 metres BROOKSON shifted in away from
DUELLING, which also shifted in resulting in APOLLO'S GHOST being bumped in onto PROVEN
TIES. APOLLO'S GHOST then became unbalanced, shifted out and had to be checked off the
heels of BROOKSON.
Near the 1600 metres DELTA RUN (IRE) which was pulling had
to be checked off the heels of YOUNG BEAUTY.
Subsequent to the event YOUNG BEAUTY which had been eased
down by its rider in the home straight was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who
reported no abnormality.
