RACE 1 - Tooheys 2yo Maiden Plate 1100m

As M Cant's arrival on course was delayed due to transport difficulties, apprentice R Agnew was substituted as the rider of Final Date. Danished lost its off fore plate in running. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Star Of Gibraltar, D Beadman stated that he was able to lead on the filly easily and although Star Of Gibraltar travelled fairly in the run, the filly commenced to hang out making the home turn and in his opinion did not handle the track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of Star Of Gibraltar revealed the filly to be displaying moderate respiratory distress. Trainer P Perry advised that Star Of Gibraltar would now be spelled. A post race veterinary examination of Gladiada, which weakened in the straight, did not reveal any abnormality.

RACE 2 - Aristocrat Maiden Plate 1100m

Rahera jumped awkwardly. Just Play was slow to begin. When questioned regarding the improved performance of Kenwood Allegro, Mr G Thompson, representing trainer W Mitchell, stated that at its most recent start when finishing eighth of twelve at Gosford on 25 April 2002, the colt was obliged to be ridden along in the lead and tired badly in the straight. He added that the colt was better suited today by being able to be ridden behind the leaders and then being able to finish the race off. B Pengelly, rider of fifth placed Miss Bluebonnet, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts right out to the line.

RACE 3 - Novocastrian Wholesale Liquor Class 3 Handicap 1100m

Near the 600m Rose Of Pekan hung in away from Boyzone, despite the efforts of its rider apprentice S Pollard, resulting in Nice 'N' Free having to be checked. Apprentice T McGovern (Gahela Baby) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages resulting in Gold Again being inconvenienced. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Boyzone, C Munce stated that the gelding never travelled at any stage of the event and was most disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding. He added that in his opinion Boyzone had not handled today's track surface. A post race veterinary examination of Boyzone did not reveal any abnormality. Stable representative Mr D Meijers undertook to report on any abnormality which may become apparent in Boyzone subsequent to the race.

RACE 4 - Lakes Amusements Class 3 Handicap 2100m

Mr J McNair, trainer of No Tracks which led today, was reminded of his obligation to advise the stewards of any intended change in race tactics. When questioned D McLellan stated that Veni Vidivici brushed the running rail at the 600m and after this point did not feel right in its action. He added that for this reason he eased the gelding down in the straight. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that on return to scale Veni Vidivici was found to be sore in the off hind leg. Trainer B Law was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to Veni Vidivici racing again.

RACE 5 - Pubmart Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1600m

As J Innes' arrival on track was delayed due to traffic difficulties, C Agnew was substituted as the rider of Cee Note. Whole Lotta Rosie was checked at the start when crowded between Cee Note and Luskin L'Etoile, both of which shifted ground. In the early part of the straight Luskin L'Etoile raced tight to the inside of Escalante.

RACE 6 - Carlton Draught Kevin Moses Metric Mile Handicap 1600m

The start was delayed when Pink 'N' Black had to be re-plated after casting its near fore plate. Silent Impact was held up for a run in the early part of the straight. A post race veterinary examination of Manzeal did not reveal any abnormality. When questioned regarding the improved performance of Domero compared to its most recent start at Rosehill on 20 April 2002 when the gelding finished ninth of nine, Mr D Meijers, representing trainer G Waterhouse, stated that the stable was unable to explain the horse's run last start as it had been fancied on that occasion. He added that the only reason he can put forward regarding the improved performance is the additional fitness following its last start on which occasion it was second up from a spell.

RACE 7 - Central Coast Hotels 2002 Gosford Gold Cup 2100m

Jockey C Munce was fined $100 under LR 57 for collecting the wrong saddle cloth after weighing out. At the start Hey Pronto and Call Me Lily were crowded for room by Manner Hill which shifted in. A post race veterinary examination revealed Crop to be displaying a poor recovery rate.

RACE 8 - NBN Central Coast Television Class 6 Plate 1200m

The start was delayed when Worth While Money proved difficult to load. After taking evidence from the starter, Mr D Jeffs, rider G Buckley and Mr R Simpson representing trainer S Quintano, stewards took no action against Worth While Money however will interview Mr Quintano. Bellarouge was slow to begin.

GENERAL: Following his ride in Race 1 C O'Brien stated that he would be unable to fulfil his engagement on She Sizzles in Race 3 due to illness. Further, he advised stewards that due to being overweight he would be unable to fulfil his engagements on Big Diamond (Race 4) and Rap The Zap (Race 5). Subsequently C O'Brien pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 120(b) in that he accepted the rides for Big Diamond and Rap The Zap when overweight. C O'Brien's licence to ride in races was suspended for one week. Acting under the powers of LR 60 stewards found that C O'Brien's reason for failing to fulfil his engagement on She Sizzles in Race 3 was not satisfactory and his licence to ride in races was suspended for one week to be served concurrently with the suspension earlier imposed. Further, stewards ruled that C O'Brien may fulfil his engagements at Randwick on Saturday, 11 May 2002, and both suspensions are to commence on Sunday 12 May 2002 and to expire on Sunday 19 May 2002 on which day he may ride. In addition C O'Brien was advised that prior to riding again he must attend a full medical assessment to be conducted by doctors appointed by the TRB.
