Race 1 - BRISEIS FUNCTION CENTRE SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres:

Shortly after the start "Franzeel (NZ)" floundered and became unbalanced.

Race 2 - BRISEIS CORPORATE TABLES MAIDEN PLATE - 1700 metres:

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. Kelvin Smith, trainer of "Ski Aha", who stated that the gelding had injured itself and was unfit to run, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "Ski Aha" at 10.05 a.m. Mr. Smith will produce a veterinary certificate for the gelding.

Acting on a report from the Starter regarding the unruly behaviour of "Blarney Overcharge" when being placed in its starting stall, the Stewards notified Mr. Simon Royal, trainer of the horse, that a warning was being issued against it, and that should it behave in a similar manner in future more severe action may be taken. Mr. Royal was further notified that prior to "Blarney Overcharge" racing again he must produce a barrier test certificate in respect of it.

Race 3 - BENDIGO BANK MAIDEN PLATE - 2200 metres:

At the barrier "Giaconda" and "Snack Attack" were examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

The Stewards questioned Jamie Anstice, rider of "Snack Attack", regarding him failing to improve his position until after passing the 400 metres. J. Anstice stated that his instructions were to ride the gelding back in the field. He added that he attempted to go forward after passing the 500 metres, but was unable to do so and had to be eased off the heels of "Tijuana Taxi (NZ)", and that he then improved his position rounding the home turn. The Stewards severely reprimanded Jamie Anstice, and notified him that in their opinion he should have made a far greater attempt to improve his position sooner than he did on this occasion.

Race 4 - WINTER & TAYLOR HOLDEN CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1300 metres:

An inquiry into the reason for B. Park being dislodged from "Mudakai" near the 500 metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

When the gates opened "Blue on Black (NZ)" shifted out and tightened "Pyramid Park" on to "Taj Lotto".

No report.

Race 7 - DYANE PAGE MEMORIAL CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 2400 metres:

"Regal Ark was withdrawn at 12.40 p.m. (See Race 8 - first item.)

Race 8 - CITY OF GREATER GEELONG CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

En route to the course "Callida Boy" got down in the float, kicked out and injured itself, and "Regal Ark" (Race 7). Acting on this advice the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of both "Callida Boy" and "Regal Ark" at 12.40 p.m. Mr. Simon Gebert, trainer of both horses, was notified that prior to each horse racing again he must produce a veterinary clearance for it.

Near the 900 metres "Green Bottle", which was over-racing, had to be eased off the heels of "Regal Jet".

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from "Malakhov", which ran unplaced in the Briseis Function Centre Super Vobis Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate - Race 1; from "Mad Café", winner of the Briseis Corporate Tables Maiden Plate - Race 2; from "On the Snip", winner of the Worksafe Victoria Class 6 Handicap - Race 5, and from "Spectacular Storm", the winner of the Dyane Page Memorial Class 3 Handicap - Race 7.

A random swab sample was taken from "Oda", third placegetter, in the Winter & Taylor Holden Class 1 Handicap.

Six horses were pre-race blood tested for post-race analysis.

FINES/EXPLANATIONS:

B. Rawiller was fined $200 for having accepted the ride on "Domineer Prince" which he was unable to fulfil due to being overweight. (Bendigo Bank Maiden Plate - Race 3).

Mr. E. Musgrove, trainer of "Springhill Express", was fined $30 for using wrong colours on the mare which ran in the Worksafe Victoria Class 6 Handicap - Race 5.

It was established that L. Milham had been notified as the rider of "Le Thief", which ran in the Carlton Draught Class 2 Handicap - Race 6 - in accordance with the Rules.

ADJOURNED INQUIRY:
