RACE 1 – SUNSMART MAIDEN PLATE:

Acting on confirmed advice that GREG was suffering from an allergy and unfit to take its place in the field, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 8.35 a.m.

JELDI JELDI (C. Buchiw) and ISSAPARDEE (S. Camilleri) were both extremely restless in their stalls prior to the start.

TULLO (J. Maund) was slow to begin.

SHE’S POSH (J. Bowditch) jumped outwards at the start, resulting in MOVED (Darren Holland), which had been slow to begin, being hampered.

MR. LE CONTE (J. Potter) was slow to begin and in the vicinity of the 800 metres had become unbalanced for no apparent reason, resulting in the gelding losing ground.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres SHE’S POSH (J. Bowditch) was forced to ease to avoid the heels of JELDI JELDI (C. Buchiw).

In the vicinity of the 300 metres SHE’S POSH (J. Bowditch) shifted in slightly, resulting in JELDI JELDI (C. Buchiw) being inconvenienced.

A Veterinary inspection of JELDI JELDI, subsequent to the race, revealed the mare suffered a laceration to the off side nostril prior to the event.

RACE 2 – SMOKE-FREE DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE:

LIL STAR (W. Kerford) and ZEDA’S PRIDE (J. Lorensini) were slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 1800 metres MANILOW (P. Gatt) became unbalanced when negotiating the crossing, resulting in the colt shifting in slightly. In consequence PROUD GAZE (J. Holder) was forced to ease to avoid the heels of MANILOW.

A Veterinary inspection of WILLIAM TELL following the running of the race revealed shin soreness in both fore legs and soreness in both hindquarters.

RACE 3 – SMOKE-FREE DISTANCE CLASS 5 HANDICAP:

LAZEEZ (R. Faehr) became unbalanced in the vicinity of the 600 metres for no apparent reason, resulting in the gelding losing ground.

RACE 4 – ALCOHOL GO-EASY CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

J. Bowditch replaced J. Holder as the declared of MISTY GALORE, due to a printing error.

KEEN ON BILL (D. Tootell) jumped away awkwardly, resulting in the gelding shifting out and making contact with MISTY GALORE (J. Bowditch).

TRUCENT’S TOUCH knuckled on jumping away, resulting in that gelding’s rider, J. Holder, becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

In the vicinity of the 1300 metres KEEN ON BILL (D. Tootell) commenced to race fiercely.

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres PEKOE (C. Buchiw), when being eased off the heels of MISTY GALORE (J. Bowditch) rolled in. D. Tootell, rider of KEEN ON BILL, reported to Stewards that although receiving some pressure, the gelding had been extremely reluctant to hold its position inside of PEKOE, resulting on KEEN ON BILL losing considerable ground.

B. Vale, rider of SWANLEY, reported to Stewards the mare showed a tendency to lay in throughout the event.

RACE 5 – SUNSMART CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

D. Carney replaced C. Lever as the rider of I AM THE MAN, owing to C. Lever being indisposed through illness.

Rounding the home turn KYAKATU (W. Kerford), after becoming unbalanced shifted out onto PATRIARCH (M. Neilson), resulting in that gelding being taken out and making contact with KIMASH (S. Price). As a result of this incident PATRIARCH became unbalanced for a short distance.

A Veterinary inspection and endoscoping of PATRIARCH, following the running of the race, revealed the gelding was suffering from pharyngitis.

RACE 6 – SMOKE-FREE CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

S. Price replaced C. Lever as the rider of SAXONY GIRL.

FLEET DAPPER (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly, resulting in that rider becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

RACE 7 – SPRING SERIES (3) SUNSMART/SABIS FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

SHOWERS OF GOLD was subject to a Veterinary inspection at the start, after being kicked, and the mare was passed fit to take its place in the field.

ROMANDRAMA (P. Gatt) jumped away awkwardly, resulting in the filly shifting in, making contact with LOVELLE (J. Maund), resulting in that mare being hampered for a short distance.

Racing inside the 200 metres LADYHI (C. Symons) shifted out under riding, resulting in BLEVITA (S. Price) being taken out and making contact with SHOWERS OF GOLD (T. Creek).

C. Symons was advised by Stewards of his obligations when his mounts commence to shift ground.

P. Gatt, rider of ROMANDRAMA, reported to Stewards the filly had travelled well in the early and middle stages of the event, but when placed under pressure inside the 600 metres had failed to respond to his riding. A Veterinary inspection of the filly revealed a poor heart rate recovery.

RACE 8 – GAWLER TAXI & HIRE CAR SERVICE CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

D. Azis replaced S. Cahill as the rider of GO SPIDER, owing to S. Cahill being indisposed through illness.

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres TEMPESTO (Darren Holland) shifted in; at the same time MISS LADYBIRD (C. Buchiw) was taken in slightly, and also shifted in and away from TEMPESTO, resulting in GREY NURSE (C. Lindop) being tightened and taken in onto CECIL RED (L. Smith), resulting in that horse being taken in and forced to check off the heels of JACK ‘N’ TAN (B. Neville).

C. Buchiw was reprimanded by Stewards and advised against the practice of shifting ground under similar circumstances.

Darren Holland was advised, although only placing minimal pressure on C. Buchiw, in future he would be required to give riders the room to which they are entitled.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres ACCESS POINT (P. Gatt) rolled in, resulting in TEMPESTO (Darren Holland), which had been racing tightly on the inside of that horse, being taken in onto VICE VANITY (A. Stead), in turn that gelding was tightened for galloping room and forced to ease and lose its position. As a result, FINA DAZE (NZ) (B. Claridge) was forced to change direction to avoid the heels of VICE VANITY.

Rounding the home turn B. Claridge, rider of FINA DAZE (NZ) was forced to ease and change direction on that filly to avoid the heels of TEMPESTO (Darren Holland).

Rounding the home turn STARLIT (T. Creek), which became unbalanced for a short distance, shifted out, resulting in contact being made with YOUNG SMYTZER (J. Maund), turning that horse in slightly. In consequence GREY NURSE (C. Lindop) was hampered in avoiding the heels of YOUNG SMYTZER.

B. Neville, rider of JACK ‘N’ TAN, dropped his whip for no apparent reason, in the vicinity of the 100 metres. That rider was advised that any future repetition could lead to disciplinary action being taken.

D. Carney, rider of BIDDYUP, was questioned by Stewards in relation to his riding of the gelding to the line, over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from D. Carney, that rider was fined $100 for failing to ride his mount out to the line, as required under ARR 137(b).
