Rail: Normal position

RACE 1 – GAWLER BOOKMAKERS COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE:

A. Stead was not shown in the race book as the rider of BAKARRI.

P. Gatt replaced S. Cahill as the rider of BELONGA BOB, owing to S. Cahill being indisposed due to illness.

BAKARRI and BILLSCAY underwent Veterinary inspections at the barrier and were declared fit to start.

DEVARAJA DAAN (J. Maund) was slow to begin.

POWER TO WIN (T. Barras) jumped away awkwardly.

TELITE (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly and inconvenienced BILLY BUSTER (W. Kerford).

WEST STREET (B. Claridge) raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race, and had a tendency to over-race.

Racing to the 100 metres GREG (J. Potter) shifted in and as a result BILLSCAY (J. Lorensini) shifted away from that gelding, which resulted in WISE CRACKER (D. Azis) shifting in and at the same time WEST STREET (B. Claridge) rolling out. In consequence TELITE (J. Holder) was hampered.

RACE 2 – McDONALDS, GAWLER MAIDEN PLATE:

Racing from the 1600 metres SIREN MISS (J. Bowditch), which was showing a tendency to over-race, shifted out and as a result forced DUTTON (M. Hoppo) to race wider on the track.

Racing to the 400 metres MALTHOUSE (C. Bryant) shifted in slightly and as a result SADLER’S ROAD (J. Lorensini) shifted in, resulting in EDELMAN (J. Holder) shifting away from that gelding and severely inconveniencing DUTTON (M. Hoppo), which had to be severely checked and lost ground. In consequence RAYJAN STAR (R. Faehr) had to be checked to avoid the heels of DUTTON, resulting in R. Faehr being dislodged. PANTINNY PUPPA (K. Louca) was unable to avoid RAYJAN STAR and in consequence fell. R. Faehr and K. Louca were examined by the Club’s Doctor and declared fit to ride.

C. Bryant was severely reprimanded and advised to take more care in similar circumstances.

LASSETER lost its near hind plate during the race.

RACE 3 – WILLASTON AUTO ELECTRICS CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

A swab sample was taken from LOLA, winner of the race.

EXTRA SPESH (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 4 – THE AIRCONDITIONING PEOPLE CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

RATHER GAZE (R. Faehr) was slow to begin.

TERTIAN’S GAMBLE (B. Vale) jumped away awkwardly and had a tendency to hang out during the early and middle stages of the race.

J. Holder, rider of LEMOXIE, reported that he was held up for a run approaching the 100 metres and had to ease to avoid the heels of HOT LINE (D. Azis).

RACE 5 – GAWLER STOCK FEEDS CLASS 5 HANDICAP:

P. Gatt, rider of DOUBLE LEGEND, reported the gelding had felt uncomfortable in its action over the concluding stages of the race.

A subsequent Veterinary inspection of DOUBLE LEGEND failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 – WOLF BLASS WINES CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

A swab sample was taken from TEMPESTO, winner of the race.

GALAXY DOVE (L. Smith) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres SMYTZER’S SMYTZER (NZ) (D. O’Heare) had to be checked to avoid the heels of HEY BROTHER (C. Lindop), which resulted in RED COLLEEN (J. Bowditch) having to shift out to avoid the heels SMYTZER’S SMYTZER (NZ). As a result, NO ADMITTANCE (K. Louca) had to be checked and lost ground.

Near the 200 metres TEMPESTO (J. Potter) became unbalanced for a short distance.

Racing inside the 200 metres SAUVIGNON HILL (J. Lorensini) had a tendency to lay in under pressure and as a result J. Lorensini had to stop riding and straighten the colt.

RACE 7 – SOLVER DECORATOR CENTRE, GAWLER CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

After being placed in the barrier CROSS ME NOT (J. Bowditch) became fractious. A subsequent Veterinary inspection of the mare revealed that it had lacerated both hind legs. Acting on Veterinary advice Stewards ordered the withdrawal of CROSS ME NOT at 4.30 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies wagered on CROSS ME NOT be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 36 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 22 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

In the home turn JUNGLE JUNCTION (D. Tootell) was inconvenienced due to SO SAY ALL OF US (P. Gatt) rolling out.

T. Creek, rider of SABBATH 2nd Placegetter, lodged a Protest against RORTING (C. Bryant) being declared the winner, for alleged interference racing to the 200 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, on their own observations and viewing the official video film of the event, Stewards dismissed the Protest.

Racing to the 200 metres DEVITO (B. Claridge) shifted out to obtain a clear run and as a result SABBATH (T. Creek) was taken outwards. At the same time, RORTING (C. Bryant) rolled in slightly, resulting in SABBATH being inconvenienced.

B. Claridge was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RACE 8 – ALCOHOL GO EASY SABIS FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE:

T. Creek replaced S. Cahill as the rider of SAVILLE’S ANGUISH.

L. Smith replaced W. Kerford as the rider of ARMAGH MAID, due to W. Kerford being indisposed due to illness.

MOLLY DOLLY (T. Barras) jumped away awkwardly.

SHARE THE WINE (B. Vale) jumped away awkwardly and commenced to buck shortly after the start.

Mr. R. Moore, Trainer of SHARE THE WINE, was advised the filly must trial to the Stewards satisfaction before accepting for a race again.

ARMAGH MAID (L. Smith) raced very greenly throughout the event.

DEMON’S LADY (J. Maund) jumped away very slowly.

A subsequent Veterinary inspection of DEMON’S LADY revealed it had suffered an injury to its near side cannon. As a result, Trainer Mr. D. Halliday was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race must be presented for DEMON’S LADY before accepting for a race.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres MOLLY DOLLY (T. Barras) had to be checked to avoid the heels of SUPREME REVIEW (B. Claridge).

Near the 300 metres BY INVITATION ONLY (S. Price) had a tendency to lay in and as a result S. Price had to stop riding and straighten the filly.

A Veterinary inspection of ARMAGH MAID, subsequent to the race, revealed the mare was suffering some soreness in its near side shoulder.
