Track: Good
Weather: Fine
Rail: Normal

RACE 1 – SUNSMART MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division):

D. O’Heare replaced G. Dorol as the rider of RAJA MAHAL, owing to G. Dorol being injured at track work.

The start of this race was delayed owing to P. Gatt receiving a knock to the head behind the gates. P. Gatt was examined by the Ambulance Personnel and ruled fit to ride.

MOONEY (Darren Holland) proved difficult to load.

Mr. R. Hughes, Trainer of MOONEY, was advised that a repetition of the gelding’s behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.

GOLD FOX (J. Maund) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres TELBON LOTTO (J. Bowditch) and WEST STREET (J. Lorensini) brushed together.

MARSCMER (R. Faehr) and WEST STREET (J. Lorensini) brushed at the finish.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow J. Lorensini rider of WEST STREET, and the Trainer of the gelding Mr. K. Sweeney to view the official head-on footage of the finishing stages. After doing so J. Lorensini declined the option to lodge an objection and Correct Weight was declared.

Subsequent to the race P. Gatt was examined by the Club’s Doctor and as a result he stood down from his remaining engagements.

RACE 2 – SUNSMART MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division):

J. Bowditch replaced P. Gatt as the rider of ON MY OATH.

The start of this race was delayed owing to SUMMERTOWN GIRL refusing to travel to the barriers.

SUMMERTOWN GIRL was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.58 p.m.

Mr. K. Matson, Trainer of SUMMERTOWN GIRL, was advised the mare would be required to trial to the Stewards satisfaction in an Official Trial before being accepted for a future event.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on SUMMERTOWN GIRL be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 19 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 16 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets were not subject to the deductions.

TELITE proved difficult to load.

Mr. D. Halliday, Trainer of TELITE, was advised that a repetition of the gelding’s behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.

Inside the 400 metres CLEARING OUT (S. Price) shifted out and contacted LORD ROYDON (S. Cahill). Shortly after LORD ROYDON rolled in and contacted CLEARING OUT.

RACE 3 – GAWLER CARAVAN CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE:

SEAVIEW ROAD (J. Holder) and MEMPHIS RACER (D. Azis) were slow to jump.

FREELANCE (J. Potter) was slow to jump, and on jumping away shifted out abruptly, prior to being corrected by its rider. FREELANCE continued to race greenly in the early and middle stages of the race.

On jumping away ARABIAN WALTZ (B. Vale) shifted in abruptly and contacted JABBAR (S. Cahill), which was inconvenienced.

Inside the 200 metres CRIMSON SEEDLESS (T. Creek) shifted in, taking SEAVIEW ROAD (J. Holder) in, resulting in that colt being held up for a short distance behind BILLY BUSTER (W. Kerford), which had commenced to weaken.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of MISS CHELSEA failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

RACE 4 – LYN DARRALL DISTANCE CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

KWAITPA (J. Maund) reared as the gates opened and missed the start several lengths.

TEMPESTO (J. Potter) got its head up and raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the race.

Inside the 200 metres MASCAGNI (S. Price) shifted out, outside TEMPESTO (J. Potter), to obtain a run and contacted FAMOUS PIRATE (W. Kerford), which was forced to steady off the heels of WHY HURRY (B. Vale), which was inclined to lay in. At the same time, TEMPESTO rolled out under riding.

S. Price was advised that in future he should only attempt to take runs where there was sufficient room.

Approaching the finish TEMPESTO (J. Potter) shifted away from MASCAGNI (S. Price).

RACE 5 – JOHN PHILLIPS CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

Inside the 300 metres DEVITO (B. Claridge) shifted out and contacted PARINGA (T. Creek), which became unbalanced, resulting in both horses brushing again shortly after.

W. Kerford, rider of ELLAWARREN LAD, was asked to explain his riding of the gelding inside the 300 metres. W. Kerford explained that prior to the 300 metres he had been taken out slightly by DEVITO (B. Claridge) and as a result was obliged to ease for a stride off the heels of PARINGA (T. Creek). W. Kerford had formed an opinion that DEVITO was travelling better than PARINGA at this point, and rather than switch wider to that gelding’s outside, he had elected to attempt to follow DEVITO forward. Stewards advised W. Kerford that his explanation would be noted.

RACE 6 – WILLASTON HOTEL CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

S. Price was notified as the rider of LANEMA, replacing P. Gatt who had been previously notified as the replacement rider for G. Dorol.

D. Azis replaced P. Gatt as the rider of ONYX RIVER.

Inside the 1000 metres BILLY RASCAL (J. O’Connor) became reluctant to hold his position inside BONTARRI (J. Maund) and shifted in and away from the mare, becoming unbalanced and contacting the running rail.

Inside the 200 metres EARLWOOD MANOR (NZ) (J. Marks), which had been inclined to lay in under pressure, became unbalanced when being straightened.

RACE 8 – BASIC STEEL SUPPLIES CLASS 5 HANDICAP:

B. Vale was notified as the rider of ON THE GROG.

W. Kerford replaced P. Gatt as the rider of YELLOW CARD.

VERDOT (D. O’Heare) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the finish KING CROW (Darren Holland), which was inclined to lay in, was obliged to steady off the heels of RATIONS (D. Cleaver), which rolled out under pressure.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of VERDOT failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

RACE 9 – KFC, GAWLER CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

Darren Holland replaced P. Gatt as the rider of BELONGA BOB.

J. O’Connor replaced D. Carney as the rider of JUST FOR DON, owing to that rider being unable to make the allotted weight. D. Carney was fined $100 under AR 120(b).

EXTRA SPESH was withdrawn by Stewards at 5.03 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice that the mare, which had become agitated in its stall, was unfit to race.

MR. VANDAAM (W. Kerford) was slow to jump.

Near the 500 metres HOT LINE (D. Azis) was tightened as a result of WISE CRACKER (J. Maund) shifting out and away from MR. VANDAAM (W. Kerford) on its inside; at the same time as MAYFAIR MISTRESS (S. Price) rolled in. This resulted in HOT LINE being checked and in doing so shifted out, across the heels of MAYFAIR MISTRESS.

W. Kerford was reprimanded and advised in future to take greater care when shifting ground.

Darren Holland, rider of BELONGA BOB, reported the gelding had hung out from the 1000 metres and got its tongue over the bit during the race.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of MAYFAIR MISTRESS revealed the filly had muscular soreness in the near side of the neck.
