Race 1 - GRAHAM ARTHUR STEEPLECHASE - 3300
metres:
On jumping the fence near the 200 metres the first time
"Our Poetic Star" shifted in and made contact with "Masquerade",
resulting in "Our Poetic Star" becoming unbalanced.
"Corker's Boy" knuckled on landing over the fence
at the 1700 metres, and "Our Poetic Star", which was following, was hampered.
During the running of the race "Go Shorty"
suffered a bleeding attack.
Adrian Garraway, rider of "Piggery Hill", stated
that after the gelding made a faulty jump near the 1800 metres and almost fell
"Piggery Hill" did not feel right in its action from that point. As the horse
was a beaten horse rounding the home turn he pulled it up. A veterinary examination of
"Piggery Hill" failed to reveal any abnormality.
"Our Poetic Star", which was pulled up rounding
the home turn, suffered a bleeding attack.
Race 2 - SUPER VOBIS LOU RICHARDS HANDICAP -
1000 metres:
"Compactus" knuckled on jumping away and lost
ground.
"She's my Baby" shifted in on jumping away and
hampered "Bar Sector".
"Spardera" shifted out on jumping away and
hampered "Westtrakowe".
Near the 200 metres "Bar Sector" shifted in under
pressure and hampered "Wisttrakowe".
Race 3 - SUPER VOBIS ALLAN JEANS HANDICAP - 1420
metres:
After being placed in its stall "Broadband"
became restless and struck the front gates. "Broadband" was removed from the
stalls, examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.
Shortly after jumping away "Kipfler" shifted in
away from "Broadband" and inconvenienced "Prickly".
In the straight V. Duric, rider of "Monee Lane",
dropped his whip.
Race 4 - SUPER VOBIS KEVIN MURRAY HANDICAP -
1630 metres:
Prior to the declaration of correct weight B. Rawiller,
rider of "Bangerang Clyde", third placegetter, viewed the Stewards' patrol
videos and decided not to lodge an objection.
Near the 1500 metres "Circumnavigating" had to be
eased off the heels of "Awesome Ruler", which shifted out slightly.
Near the 200 metres "Circumnavigating" shifted in
under pressure towards "Bangerang Clyde", which then had to change course to
obtain a clear run.
Near the 100 metres "Young Challenger" was
accidentally struck on the nose by the whip of D. Taggart, rider of "Centarena
(NZ)".
Race 5 - AFL LIFE MEMBERS' HANDICAP - 1420
metres:
After being placed in its stall "Beelwin (NZ)"
became fractious, and then became temporarily cast. "Beelwin (NZ)" was examined
by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, and passed fit to run.
"Your Mate", which was in the adjoining stall to
"Beelwin (NZ)", stood flat-footed when the gates were released, and lost
considerable ground.
In the middle stages of the race the saddle on "Smooth
Rancho" shifted to the near side, which inconvenienced G. Mathrick, its rider for the
remainder of the race.
Just prior to straightening "Brother Thaddeus"
was inconvenienced by "What a Blast", which shifted in.
"What a Blast" had some difficulty obtaining a
clear run in the early part of the straight, and then shifted in abruptly to obtain a
clear run near the 300 metres.
"Smooth Rancho" shifted out under pressure near
the 300 metres and inconvenienced "Regal Cutter".
Race 6 - BERNIE QUINLAN HANDICAP - 1000 metres:
No report.
Race 7 - TERRY DANIHER WELTER - 1800 metres:
Mr. G. Fennessy, representing Mr. T. McEvoy, trainer of
"Liquid Lunch", requested permission to scratch the gelding from this event as
the track had been downgraded to heavy, and it was felt that "Liquid Lunch"
would not perform to the best of its ability in the prevailing conditions. The Stewards
granted permission for "Liquid Lunch" to be withdrawn from the event at 3.01
p.m.
Shortly after the start "Assume the Crown"
shifted out and took "Mr.`Touchwood (NZ)" out on to "Shuttle Mission
(NZ)", which was hampered.
Race 8 - JOHN SCHULTZ HANDICAP - 1420 metres:
When asked if there was any explanation for "Kia Puru
(NZ)" performing below expectations, F. Alesci stated that the mare did not handle
the track conditions today. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of
all races today.
FINES/EXPLANATIONS:
Mr. T. Rosolini, trainer of "Laird's Bounty"
which ran in the AFL Life Members' Handicap - Race 5 - was fined $50 for presenting the
gelding in the mounting yard without blinkers. |
