As the majority of the field had galloped for some distance and it was in the opinion of the Stewards inappropriate to restart the race, the race was declared void under AR139.

Stewards notified Ms L Williams, trainer of BURNT PEAT that a warning would be issued against the filly and if it was to perform in a similar manner in future it may be suspended from racing.

On jumping away ZOFFOCLES was tightened for room between SILENT MAJORITY and NORTHERN CAT. Also STEAMING jumped inwards and bumped the hindquarters of ASPEN STAR turning that gelding outwards. ASPEN STAR then shifted out taking STEAMING out onto BRONZED OSSIE which shifted and bumped INFLUENT.

Near the 1100 metres BRONZED OSSIE, which was shifting in with other runners, was bumped on the hindquarters by STEAMING.

Near the 1100 metres NORTHERN CAT had to be eased off the heels of HIGHER POWER (S Simon) which shifted in. S Simon was reprimanded and notified that he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear prior of shifting ground in future.

Near the 900 metres ZOFFOCLES had to be eased of the heels of INFLUENT.

Stewards questioned D Bates, trainer/rider of BRONZED OSSIE regarding it’s dissappointing performance. D Bates stated that the gelding was hampered on a number of occassions early in the race, which put him back in the field. After this BRONZED OSSIE did not appreciate being back in the field and with the big weight of 59.0kg was never able to get back into the race. D Bates further stated that the gelding appeared to pull up alright. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon inspected BRONZED OSSIE and notified the Stewards that he could find no apparent abnormality. A swab sample was taken from BRONZED OSSIE

Mr D Leech trainer of ASPEN STAR, was fined $50 for failing to lodge a stable return showing himself as the nominator for that gelding, in accordance with AR56.
