Shortly after the start FINE OPTION, which
was racing ungenerously, rolled out which resulted in HOKAIDO having to be eased off
its heels and MONSOONS, which was racing outside HOKAIDO having to be eased off that
mares heels. After being restrained HOKAIDO had a tendency to throw its head in the
air and race ungenerously.
Near the 700 metres RED CENTRE RACER, which
was overracing, had to be checked off the heels of MR. ILLUMINATOR. M Osmond, rider of RED
CENTRE RACER stated that he had been instructed to ride the colt back in the field,
however it overraced and was attempting to race up on the inside of MR ILLUMINATOR where
there was insufficient room.
Near the 400 metres S Brownbill (a), rider
of NICE WAYS dropped his whip.
Mr D Leech, trainer of NICE WAYS was fined
$50 for negligence (AR8(e)) in the saddling of that gelding as it was presented with the
incorrect saddlecloth number. S Brownbill (a) was severely reprimanded for failing to
properly check the saddlecloth number prior to giving his gear to Mr Leech to saddle NICE
WAYS.

Throughout the race UMAHERO had a tendency
to hang out.

On jumping away COPPERPLATE was tightened for room between
CHARLIE and STEVO. Near the 900 metres RING CYCLE (P Denton) shifted in and tightened
STEVO, COPPERPLATE, CHARLIE and BENGAL FLASH which had to be eased. Stewards reprimanded P
Denton and notified him that in future he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear prior to
shifting ground.
Trainer Ms A White was fined $50 for engaging an
unregistered person to strap her horses today (NT104(a)).

On jumping away PIM and CITYKAT both
bounded in the air and jumped awkwardly.
Stewards questioned P Denton, rider of
TERRITORY EDITON, which performed below expectations. P Denton stated that the gelding
raced up behind the leaders and then when BROOKLYN BYULLET raced up on his outside near
the 700 metres the gelding did not appreciate it and failed to improve from that point on.
He also stated that the gelding in his opinion does not race well inside other runners and
that other than that he could offer no explanation. A veterinary examination of TERRITORY
EDITION failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

Stewards accepted the explanation offered
by Mr S Brown trainer of YESSTILLA for the late notification of G Browder as the rider of
that mare. When the gates opened YESSTILLA reared and lost considerable ground.
Near the 400 metres NEARMISS was taken in
onto CHROMIUM by LOCHTON LASS (M Osmond), which rolled in. The interference was
accentuated by CHROMIUM, which was weakening badly. However stewards notified M Osmond
that he must ensure he gives riders on his inside sufficient racing room.
Stewards questioned J Hallam(a) rider of
SOLTRICE, which performed below expectations. J Hallam (a) stated that the mare was tardy
at the start and showed little interest in racing, however appeared to pull up alright.
A veterinary examination of CHROMIUM
revealed that the gelding had pulled up lame in the off foreleg.
