RACE ONE CLASS 1 HCP – 13OO M

When the gates opened REGENCY OF MARAIS jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Shortly after the start AIM TO PLEASE was bumped outwards by GOLD JAY and then bumped by WOODWARD which shifted in slightly.

L Schmidt, rider of GOLD JAY reported that the gelding had a tendency to lay out rounding the turn.

Stewards questioned P Denton, rider of REGENCY OF MARAIS, which performed below expectations. P Denton stated that after missing the start the gelding travelled well until near the 700 metres then when he had to start to ride it along it commenced to weaken and was a beaten horse from that stage. He further stated that the gelding appeared to pull up alright.

When the gates opened STEAMING, which had been restless in the gates, reared and lost ground. Stewards questioned G Clarke, rider of STEAMING which performed below expectations. G Clarke stated that after the gelding missed the start it raced keenly until near the 500 metres at which stage the gelding compounded badly. G Clarke stated that STEAMING appeared to pull up alright and he could offer no explanation for it’s poor performance. Stewards questioned Mr A Trengrove, trainer of STEAMING who stated that he was dismayed at the gelding’s performance and could offer no explanation. The Club Veterinary Surgeon inspected STEAMING and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality. A swab sample was taken from STEAMING.

After having weighed out to ride THING, J Hallam notified the Stewards that he had left his stirrup irons and leathers off his saddle. J Hallam was reweighed and the Stewards accepted his explanation for having forgotten to properly mount his saddle prior to weighing out.
