Race 1 - N.M.I.T. MAIDEN HURDLE - 3000 metres:
"Northern Charisma (NZ)" got down in the float en
route to the course, and after arriving at the course on a veterinary inspection was found
to be lame in the near hind leg. The Stewards withdrew the gelding from the race at 11.13
a.m.
Subsequently the Stewards ordered that all monies wagered
on "Northern Charisma" be refunded, and that all successful bets on horses prior
to the time of withdrawal of "Northern Charisma" be subject to the following
deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win Bets: Eight cents; Place
Bets: Ten cents; Winning Concession Bets: Eight cents and Doubles Bets: Eight Cents. All
monies bet after the Stewards' declaration of withdrawal were ordered to be paid at face
value of ticket.
In the middle stages of the race the saddle on
"Platonic Love (NZ)" shifted forward.
Race 2 - SUPER VOBIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN -
1200 metres:
Near the 800 metres "Ski for Kings" was tightened
for room between "Irish Jester" and "Grappa Boy", which shifted in
when laying in.
Near the 700 metres "Irish Jester" was tightened
for room by "Grappa Boy", which was laying in, and shifted in on the inside of
"Stoneworkz".
Shortly after this incident "Irish Jester" was
again tightened for room, and "Grappa Boy" had to be eased to avoid the heels of
"Stoneworkz", which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Whilst the Stewards
believed that there were some circumstances M. Pay, rider of "Stoneworkz", was
notified that he should exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Near the 500 metres "Ski for Kings", which was
racing greenly, had to be checked off the heels of "Mr. Impeccable".
Shortly after this incident "Ski for Kings" again
had to be checked off the heels of "Mr. Impeccable", which shifted in slightly
when racing greenly.
Prior to straightening "Private Riley" had to be
eased when tightened for room between "Ski for Kings", which shifted out
slightly, and "Beebe's Bounty", which shifted in.
Donna Mott, rider of "Ski for Kings", was found
guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 200 metres
she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of "Private
Riley", which resulted in "Private Riley" having to be checked. Donna Mott
was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight tonight - 26th
May, 2002 - and to expire at midnight on Thursday, 13th June, 2002.
"Grappa Boy", which had hung in throughout the
race, hung in across the heels of "Stoneworkz" near the 100 metres.
Race 3 - AQUANITA SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD
MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1200 metres:
Shortly after jumping away "Gold Maverick", which
had shifted out slightly, was bumped by "My Advice" and became unbalanced.
Jason Patton, rider of "Cherokee Belle", was
found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that after passing
the 400 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of
"Sweet Swing", resulting in "Sweet Swing" having to be checked. Jason
Patton was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Tuesday,
28th May, 2002, and to expire at midnight on Saturday, 15th June,
2002.
Race 4 - AQUANITA SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD
MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1200 metres:
"Miss President" was slow to begin.
Race 5 - YARRA VALLEY REGIONAL FOOD GROUP
MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres:
"Gee Finale" dislodged its rider at the start,
and galloped for some distance before being caught by the Clerk of the Course. "Gee
Finale" was returned to the start, examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, and
passed fit to run. As a result of this the start of the race was delayed.
"Palace Grove" jumped away awkwardly, and then
knuckled.
"Gee Finale" shifted in and bumped "Cheque
Book Blitz".
"Gee Finale" and "Cheque Book Blitz"
were then tightened for room between "Gold Rooney", which shifted in, and
"Roman Brandy", which jumped away awkwardly, and shifted out. In the incident
"Roman Brandy" was hampered.
"Moss Ballad" was slow to begin.
"Macroyal", which jumped away awkwardly, then had
to be eased after going a short distance due to "Our Relic" shifting out.
An inquiry into the reason for "Under
Instruction" having to be checked on the home turn was adjourned to a date to be
fixed.
The Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that "Our
Relic" had pulled up in a distressed condition.
A veterinary inspection of "Casa Loma", which had
weakened over the concluding stages of the race, revealed that the mare was sore in the
off fore leg.
Race 6 - CARLTON DRAUGHT OPEN HANDICAP - 1500
metres:
Near the 1000 metres "Cater", which was
over-racing, had to be eased off the heels of "Rupert".
"Aussie's Lad" was found to be bleeding from its
near-side nostril subsequent to the event. "Aussie's Lad" is not deemed to be a
bleeder.J Patton rider of "Rupert"which performed poorly stated that the gelding
was reluctant to stretch out at any stage of the race.
Race 7 - QUALITY ROADS CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1000
metres:
"Diamonds Are" jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 600 metres "Arch Triumph" knuckled when
racing tight between "Hulavie", which was shifting in, and "Diamonds
Are", which shifted out slightly.
A veterinary examination of "Rustic Royal", which
performed poorly, revealed no apparent abnormality.
After returning to scale "Arch Triumph" bled from
the off-side nostril. "Arch Triumph" is not deemed to be a bleeder.
Race 8 - SUPER VOBIS STAYERS CLASS 4 HANDICAP
- 2650 metres:
"Florina Plane" jumped away awkwardly.
An inquiry into "Boxter Blue" being hampered near
the 600 metres the first time when tightened on to "Traminer Miss" and "Run
Santa Run", which was following, clipping the heels of "Boxter Blue" and
having to be checked was adjourned to a date to be fixed as M. Allen, rider of
"Boxter Blue", and G. Mathrick, rider of "Traminer Miss", had left the
course.
Near the 600 metres "Run Santa Run" shifted in
and changed course to avoid the heels of "Leys".
Shortly after this incident "Traminer Miss"
brushed the rail when tightened for room by "Fabio", which shifted in away from
"Western Union" (D. Keating), which shifted in.Near the 400m "Traminer
Miss"and "Run Santa Run" were inconvienced and raced tightly when
"Western Union" (D Keating) shifted in. D. Keating will be notified that he must
leave comfortable racing room for runners on his inside in future.
An inquiry into the reason for D. Keating, rider of
"Western Union" leaving the course when required for an inquiry was adjourned to
a date to be fixed.
An inquiry into both M. Allen and G. Mathrick leaving the
racecourse without obtaining a clearance from the Stewards was adjourned to a date to be
fixed.
The Stewards questioned Mr. P. Cannon, foreman for Mr. R.
W. Smerdon, trainer of "Zabenz (NZ)", regarding the change in riding tactics
from Moonee Valley on the 8th May when "Zabenz (NZ)" ran second and
raced on the pace, and today. The Stewards also took evidence from Jason Patton, rider of
"Zabenz (NZ)". As the Stewards wished to question Mr. Smerdon, who gave the
riding instructions at Moonee Valley, and instructed Mr. Cannon to give the riding
instructions today, and also wished to speak to Mark Zahra, who rode the gelding at Moonee
Valley, they adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.
Race 9 - COULTHARD CONSULTING STRUCTURAL
ENGINEERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1500 metres:
An inquiry into a prohibited substance, needles and a
syringe - both unused - being found in the race bag of Ms Michelle Labahn, trainer of
"Domo Domo", at Cranbourne today was adjourned to a date to be fixed. A swab
sample was ordered to be taken from "Domo Domo", which was unplaced.
On jumping away "Domo Domo" shifted out and
hampered "Kristie's Banker (NZ)".
Near the 600 metres "Mega Moon" and 'Divine
Rhythm" Came together due to both horses shifting ground slightly. In the incident
"Mega Moon" became unbalanced.
Approaching the home turn "Kristie's Banker (NZ)"
was inconvenienced due to "Joie de Verve" shifting out slightly.
An inquiry into the reason for "Mega Moon" and
"Epic Quest" being checked rounding the home turn was adjourned to a date to be
fixed.
Approaching the winning post "Bold Archie" and
"Defined Spirit" raced tight due to "Bold Archie" shifting out towards
that gelding.
SWAB SAMPLES were taken from
"Attila", winner of the Aquanita Super Vobis Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate (1) -
Race 3; from "Hulavie", winner of the Quality Roads Class 2 Handicap - Race 7;
from "Iron Bofay", winner of the Super Vobis Stayers Class 4 Handicap - Race 8.
A random swab sample was taken from "Miss
President", which ran unplaced in the Acquanita Super Vobis Three-Years-Old Maiden
Plate (2) - Race 4.
A random swab sample was taken from "Best
Intentions", winner of the Carlton Draught Open handicap - Race 6.
FINES/EXPLANATIONS:
Mr. Kelvin Smith, trainer of "Green Bottle", was
fined $50 for the late notification of D. Taggart as the rider of the gelding which ran in
the Aquanita Super Vobis Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate (2) - Race 4. |
