Approaching the finish the whip of S. Price accidentally contacted the arm of A. Stead, rider of LIMA JULIET.

A. Stead, rider of LIMA JULIET, was advised by Stewards of his obligations in riding his mounts out to the finish of a race.

RACE 4 – ATKINS PHOTOGRAPHY COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

D. Carney replaced J. Lorensini as the rider of LORD ARLINGTON, when J. Lorensini became indisposed due to injury.

NIGHT DRIVER (J. Maund) was slow to begin.

Upon jumping away MR. VANDAAM (W. Kerford) shifted out, making slight contact with OUR RANSOM (K. Louca).

Approaching the home turn SHUKU HAI (J. Marks) shifted in and away from MR. VANDAAM (W. Kerford), resulting in SHUKU HAI making contact with NIGHT DRIVER (J. Maund). As a result, SHUKU HAI and NIGHT DRIVER both became unbalanced for a short distance.

When questioned regarding the performance of MR. VANDAAM today, W. Kerford reported when ridden at Gawler on the 9th of January, its previous start, MR. VANDAAM had shown a tendency to race awkwardly and changing stride frequently. W. Kerford stated, in the event today MR. VANDAAM had continued to show this strait and had appeared to change stride more often and race with its head up. W. Kerford reported when put under pressure in the vicinity of the 400 metres the gelding did not respond to his riding. He further stated that in his opinion MR. VANDAAM may have jarred up in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanations tendered by W. Kerford.

MR. VANDAAM was subject to a Veterinary examination subsequent to the event which revealed no visible abnormalities.

SHUKU HAI was subject to a Veterinary examination subsequent to the event which revealed the gelding had a minor abrasion to its chest, sustained in the barriers.

Darren Holland suffered a leg injury in the incident and as a result was replaced by D. Tootell. NORTH CORNER underwent a Veterinary examination and was declared fit to take its place in the field.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres MISS JEUNE (S. Price) had to be eased for a short distance when disappointed for a run when tightened by BARMAID (L. Smith), which rolled in slightly.

When questioned by Stewards into the performance of MISS JEUNE today, S. Price stated the mare never travelled well in the event and was under pressure from the 400 metres and was unable to improve into the race as he would have expected. He further stated that when tightened near the 100 metres MISS JEUNE had not been travelling well enough to take that run when it was available. S. Price further advised that it was his opinion that MISS JEUNE may have jarred up in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanations of S. Price.
