In the vicinity of the 300 metres HIKING (D. Cleaver), which was inclined to race greenly, shifted in and away from BOULTON (D. O’Heare) resulting in IT’S A GREY (B. Claridge) being obliged to steady off its heels and HYPERSONIC (R. Faehr) being tightened.

Near the 100 metres HIKING (D. Cleaver), which had continued to race greenly, shifted in and away from IT’S A GREY (B. Claridge) and tightened HYPERSONIC (R. Faehr).

When questioned regarding the performance of ON THE STEEL, S. He added that in racing to the turn, ON THE STEEL was inclined to hang in and continued to lay in under pressure in the straight.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of ON THE STEEL revealed that gelding was exhibiting signs of respiratory distress.

HYPERSONIC suffered a contusion to the off fore cannon during the race.
