RACE 1 BELLOTTO HANDICAP -
1350 metres
The start of this race was delayed
owing to the blinkers on JUST VIC requiring replacement. Subsequent to the race the
blinkers were examined by the Stewards and found to be of a satisfactory quality, however,
Miss K. Huxtable was reminded of her obligations under ARR 140A.
CLEARVIEW BAY (J. Potter) was slow to jump.
MATTYS DREAM (J. Holder) was slow
jump and then became awkward and laid in for a short distance.
Approaching the 200 metres RUN LIKE BLEVIC
(M. Neilson) was inclined to lay in under pressure.
CARNDONAGH suffered an abrasion to the off
hind hock during the race.
Subsequent to the race Stewards reassessed
the track conditions and upgraded the track to Dead.
RACE 2 JETBALL HANDICAP -
1400 metres
Correct Weight for this event was
delayed to permit C. Bryant, the rider of the second placegetter, SUNTURWASI, to view the
official footage in the straight. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, C. Bryant
declined an option to lodge an objection and Correct Weight was declared.
Subsequent to the race BELLOTTO PRINCESS
was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported soreness and swelling in
the off fore sesamoid ligaments. Mr. J. Dunn, the trainer of BELLOTTO PRINCESS, was
advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before
accepting for a future event.
RACE 3 JEUNE HANDICAP - 1000
metres
CORPS COMMANDER (M. Neilson) jumped
away awkwardly and brushed the outside gate.
On jumping away DISCO TIME (T. Creek)
shifted out contacting CUBITON (N. Tomizawa), which was hampered.
Approaching the 200 metres C. Bryant
momentarily lost his off side rein.
Near the 200 metres SIR ARCHER (C. Bryant)
shifted in and tightened CORPS COMMANDER (M. Neilson) onto the hindquarters of BLUESTONE
VILLA (B. Claridge), which was hampered and became unbalanced. C. Bryant was severely
reprimanded and advised, in future, to give riders on his inside the room to which they
are entitled.
Mr. P.W. Jolly, the trainer of CUBITON, was
questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of the gelding. Mr. Jolly explained
that he had been disappointed with CUBITONs recent efforts over longer distances. In
an attempt to improve its form he had given CUBITON a brief let up outside the stable and
kept the gelding fresh. He added that the addition of blinkers, the small field and the
pace of the race may also have assisted CUBITON. Mr. Jolly was advised these explanations
would be reported.
RACE 4 AKHADAN GRAND NATIONAL
HURDLE - 3450 metres
MR. LIGHTFOOT (B. Constable) jumped the
first fence awkwardly, shifted in and inconvenienced KASTABON (NZ) (W. Williams).
CURRENCY ROAD (P. Thomas) struck the
obstacle in the vicinity of the 1200 metres on the second occasion and was awkward on
landing.
MR. LIGHTFOOT struck the last fence near
the 200 metres, knuckled on landing and dislodged its rider, B. Constable. RAQUETS (NZ)
(G. Young) was inconvenienced in attempting to avoid the fallen rider. B. Constable was
not injured.
KASTABON (NZ) lost both fore plates during
the race.
W. Harnett, the rider of ZABUAN (NZ),
explained that his mount was a hard ride and had not travelled as well as he would have
expected in running. He added that he had commenced to ride ZABUAN (NZ) prior to the 1000
metres and the gelding had finished the race off strongly in its normal manner. ZABUAN
(NZ) was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported a lower than expected
heart rate.
Subsequent to the race MR. LIGHTFOOT was
examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had sustained no
injuries.
RACE 5 DESERT SUN HANDICAP
- 1800 metres
On arrival on course the Clubs
Veterinary Surgeon inspected OLONGOPO and reported the gelding to be exhibiting soreness
in its near fore foot as a result of a bruised sole. Acting on Veterinary advice that
OLONGOPO was not fit to start, Stewards withdrew the gelding at 12.18 pm.
Near the 1600 metres LOONG HAR (S. Price)
was obliged to steady off the heels of AVIATE (J. Bowditch).
SCENIC GARDEN (T. Creek) raced ungenerously
in the early stages.
Approaching the 400 metres SCENIC GARDEN
(T. Creek), which had commenced to improve, was obliged to steady off the heels of MORE
ACTION (C. Bryant).
An objection was lodged by J. Bowditch, the
rider of the second placegetter AVIATE, against the winner LOONG HAR (S. Price) on the
grounds of alleged interference over the concluding 200 metres. After considering the
evidence tendered, viewing the official films and acting on their own observations,
Stewards DISMISSED this objection.
S. Price, the rider of LOONG HAR, was found
guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under 137(a) in that he had failed to attempt to
relieve the pressure applied to AVIATE (J. Bowditch) and MORE ACTION (C. Bryant) from
approximately the 150 metres to approaching the finish. He was suspended from riding for a
period to commence at midnight on Thursday, 25th July and to expire at midnight
on Wednesday, 31st July 2002; a period of two meetings. In considering penalty
Stewards took into account that S. Price had not been suspended in over twelve months.
Subsequent to the race AVIATE was examined
by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was suffering muscle
soreness to the off hind leg.
RACE 6 DEVARAJA HANDICAP -
1450 metres
CAPTAIN CHRISTIE (B. Vale) jumped away
awkwardly.
PATRIARCH (J. Bowditch) shifted out on
jumping away and tightened PRETTY ORDINARY (Darren Holland) onto EASTMAN (J. Lyon).
Near the 1300 metres LIMERICK SCENE (A.
Findlay) shifted in and brushed CAPTAIN CHRISTIE (B. Vale) resulting in the hindquarters
of LIMERICK SCENE being turned out and in consequence CAPTAIN CHRISTIE was obliged to
steady off its heels.
Approaching the entrance to the straight
SPACE RECRUIT (S. Price) became held up and was obliged to steady off the heels of NOISY
PROSPECT (D. Carney).
Inside the 400 metres SHOCKS (M. Neilson)
shifted out and brushed PLEASANT MICK (P. Gatt) on two occasions.
RACE 7 HAPPY GIGGLE HANDICAP
- 1350 metres
Near the 800 metres PURE GOLD (P. Gatt)
shifted out and inconvenienced GRACEFUL TASARINA (A. Findlay), which was obliged to race
wider.
Inside the 700 metres GATTON (C. Lindop)
dipped whilst being steadied off the heels of PURE GOLD (P. Gatt), which rolled in.
Approaching the 200 metres TO PAY UP (D.
Tootell) became held up for a short distance when attempting a run inside ROYAL TANGO (C.
Bryant), which was inclined to shift in.
Inside the 200 metres ROYAL TANGO (C.
Bryant) shifted in and tightened TO PAY UP (D. Tootell) onto PURE GOLD (P. Gatt), which
was inclined to lay out.
Approaching the finish TO PAY UP (D.
Tootell) was obliged to check and lose its position when tightened by ROYAL TANGO (C.
Bryant).
Correct Weight was delayed to allow D.
Tootell, the rider of the fourth placegetter TO PAY UP, to view the official footage in
the straight. After doing so D. Tootell lodged an objection against the second placegetter
ROYAL TANGO (C. Bryant) on the grounds of alleged interference over the concluding 200
metres. After considering the evidence tendered, on viewing the official films and acting
on their own observations, Stewards DISMISSED this objection.
C. Bryant, the rider of ROYAL TANGO,
pleaded guilty to a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) in that, near the 200
metres he permitted his mount to shift in and tightened TO PAY UP (D. Tootell) onto PURE
GOLD (P. Gatt) and then continued to permit his mount to shift in resulting in TO PAY UP
being forced to check off the heels of GRACEFUL TASARINA (A. Findlay). He was suspended
from riding for a period to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 24th July and to
expire at midnight on Wednesday, 7th August 2002; a period of five meetings. In
assessing penalty Stewards took into account that C. Bryant had not previously been
suspended in two years of riding.
Subsequent to the race PURE GOLD was
examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was suffering an
upper respiratory tract problem.
RACE 8 DANETOP HANDICAP -
1000 metres
KAMWAY was withdrawn at 3.50 pm by
Stewards as the declared rider, Apprentice A. Stead, had not arrived on course and no
other rider was available. An inquiry will be convened at the TRSA Morphettville offices
at 11.00 am on Monday, 22nd July 2002 to inquire into the reason for Apprentice
A. Steads non attendance.
J. Lyon was permitted to replace J. Maund
as the rider of BURZAM owing to no senior rider being available.
On jumping away LOWENDALE ROAD (P. Gatt)
shifted in and brushed SAN QUEEN (C. Bryant) resulting in that mare being taken in and
obliged to steady off the heels of QUEEN MIDAS (M. Neilson).
Inside the 200 metres EASY DREAM (J.
Potter) shifted in abruptly onto FREAK OUT (M. Hoppo), which was inconvenienced. In
consequence BURZAM (J. Lyon) was obliged to steady away from the heels of FREAK OUT.
Subsequent to the race LOWENDALE ROAD was
subjected to an endoscopic examination by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported
that the gelding had suffered an internal lung haemorrhage.
Subsequent to the race EASY DREAM was
examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported the filly was suffering a deep
respiratory tract infection.
