RACE 1: YALUMBA WINES DASH
All runners in this race were inspected by
the Clubs Veterinary Surgeons and ruled fit to start.
TROLL which shifted its off fore plate en
route to the barrier was attended by the farrier prior to the start.
SMOKEFORCE (J Potter) jumped away
awkwardly.
Inside the 800 metres COBAMUSE (T Creek),
whilst being restrained off the heels of WEST POINT ACADEMY (P Gatt) which rolled in,
commenced to race greenly for a short distance when shifting away from WEST POINT ACADEMY,
which had rolled out. SMOKEFORCE (J Potter) was inconvenienced in consequence.
RACE 2: KPMG HANDICAP
SEAVIEW ROAD (J Holder) was slow to jump.
Inside the 1200 metres COMO PRINCE (D
Carney), which was inclined to race ungenerously, shifted out and brushed TRIPLE FORCE
(NZ) (S Price).
Near the 600 metres TRIPLE FORCE (NZ) (S
Price) was inclined to race greenly when racing between horses and became unbalanced for a
short distance. S Price the rider of TRIPLE FORCE (NZ) reported that gelding had been
reluctant to race between other runners during the race.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of TRIPLE FORCE (NZ) revealed no visible abnormalities.
RACE 3: SKYCITY HANDICAP
Shortly after the start STAR JOE (NZ) (P
Gatt) and MARRON CHEVAL (B Claridge) brushed together on several occasions.
Approaching the 1200 metres STAR JOE (NZ)
(P Gatt) was obliged to steady and lose its position when tightened by APTEGO (J Potter)
on its outside, which shifted in, and MARRON CHEVAL (B Claridge) on its inside which
rolled out and away from EASY LANDING (J Bowditch) which was inclined to lay out. J Potter
was advised that although not entirely to blame for the incident he would be required to
take greater care when shifting ground in future.
Near the 300 metres, STAR JOE (NZ) (P Gatt)
which was inclined to lay in was reluctant to take a run between EASY LANDING (J Bowditch)
on its outside and MARRON CHEVAL (B Claridge) on its inside. P Gatt the rider of STAR JOE
(NZ) confirmed that his mount had been hesitant in improving into the run.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of APTEGO revealed no visible abnormalities.
RACE 4: HEGGIES VINEYARD HANDICAP
PREMONISH (W Kerford) reared as the
gates opened and missed the start.
In the vicinity of the 500 metres
DISCOUNTER (B Vale) rolled in and brushed WORLDLY WAYS (C Lindop) which was obliged to
steady off the heels of PRINCE RAJA (G Dorol).
Approaching the finish BELLOTTO PRINCESS (B
Claridge) was obliged to steady off the heels of CULLEN BAY (T Creek), which rolled out.
Subsequent to the race RUSSIAN CARAVAN was
subjected to a Veterinary inspection, which revealed no visible abnormalities.
RACE 5: CARLTON DRAUGHT HANDICAP
BENARBER (J OConnor) was slow to jump.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of NOTHING
BUT GOLD revealed no visible abnormalities.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of BENARBER
revealed no visible abnormalities.
RACE 6: BONNETTS SADDLEWORLD HANDICAP
In the vicinity of the 1200 metres TARTAN
ARMY (D Tootell) was obliged to steady off the heels of MR SELBY (T Creek) as the pace of
the race slackened.
Inside the 200 metres DARK BANNER (J
Holder) was obliged to steady momentarily away from the heels of MR SELBY (T Creek), which
shifted out.
RACE 7: MARSH INSURANCE BROKERS
HANDICAP
In the vicinity of the 1100 metres JAZORSKY
(C Buchiw) shifted in when insufficiently clear of BURZAM (J Bowditch) taking that mare in
on to NORTH CORNER (W Kerford), which was tightened onto COUNTBACK (M Hoppo) resulting in
NORTH CORNER being obliged to check and lose its position. In consequence HAMSTER JAZZ (P
Gatt) was hampered. C Buchiw was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR
137(a) and suspended for a period to commence at midnight tonight 16 March and to expire
at midnight on Friday 28 March 2002, a period of five race meetings. In assessing
penalties Stewards took into consideration C Buchiws riding record of having
previously being suspended once in over four years of riding.
PALAGIA (G Dorol) was unable to obtain clear ground over
the concluding 150 metres.
At the finish CHECK OUR BEEZ (C Puls) was obliged to steady
off the heels of BURZAM (J Bowditch) as that mare was taken in by TELL NO LIES (J Holder),
which shifted in under riding.
RACE 8: SMART CHOICE HANDICAP
YELLOW CARD was examined by the Clubs
Veterinary Surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to start.
Mr D Butler the trainer of DISCO KID, which
proved difficult to load, was informed that a repetition of the geldings barrier
behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.
YELLOW CARD (B Claridge) was slow to jump.
ATHINOULA (J Lyon) and SPANISH ARMS (C
Lindop) made contact on jumping away.
In the vicinity of the 1100 metres CLASSY
LOOKER (D Carney) was obliged to steady off the heels of SPANISH ARMS (C Lindop), which
rolled out.
Approaching the entrance to the straight,
EARLWOOD MANOR (NZ) (J Bowditch) was obliged to steady off the heels of SEATTLE KEN (S
Price), which shifted out. S Price was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
Inside the 200 metres, CANADIAN COMET (J
Holder) shifted out to obtain clear running and contacted DISCO KID (W Kerford), which
shifted away. J Holder was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.
Near the 100 metres OUR AVON (D Yendall)
was obliged to steady off the heels of CLASSY LOOKER (D Carney), which rolled out under
riding.
EARLWOOD MANOR lost its near fore plate
during the race. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of EARLWOOD MANOR revealed
that horse to be exhibiting lower back muscle pain.
Correct weight for this event was delayed
to allow Stewards to review the official footage in the straight.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of SURE BET revealed that gelding to lame in the near foreleg.
