RACE 1 : HOTELIERS DAY HURDLE

A swab sample was taken from REGAL ROYAL, winner of the race.

JET EXPRESS (NZ) (G. Preston) knuckled on landing after jumping the hurdle situated in the vicinity of the 1200 metres.

ULOSIS (R. Maund) jumped the hurdle in the vicinity of the 1000 metres poorly resulting in that gelding becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

ULOSIS (R. Maund) shifted out slightly on landing after jumping the hurdle in the vicinity of the 600 metres, in consequence SHUTAYR (G. Young) clipped the heels of that gelding, dipped and became unbalanced for a short distance.

SHUTAYR dipped on landing after jumping the second last hurdle. G. Young, rider of the gelding, reported to Stewards that SHUTAYR took some time to balance up after the incident.

SHUTAYR suffered minor lacerations to both forelegs during the running of the race.

RACE 2 : HALFWAY HOTEL HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from OH SO DISCREET, winner of the race.

BEAU LOTTO (W. Kerford) and COORDINATOR (P. Gatt) were both slow to begin.

Racing in the vicinity of the 800 metres PRINCE RAJA (C. Symons), which was showing a tendency to lay in, shifted in resulting in COORDINATOR (P. Gatt) being inconvenienced.

RACE 3 : LINKS TAVERNER HOTEL HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from PALAGIA, winner of the race.

AMACLASE (T. Creek) jumped outwards at the start resulting in that filly brushing BELLCINA (D. Tootell).

BONNIE GOLLIE (J. O’Connor) jumped away awkwardly and that mare raced with its head in the air for some distance.

RACE 4 : LAKES RESORT HOTEL HANDICAP

The start of this race was delayed slightly owing to ANOTHER PRINTER, which was restless in its stall, rearing and becoming cast in the super-structure. That gelding was subject to a veterinary inspection and passed fit to take its place in the field.

A swab sample was taken from DEACONESS, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres BLUE TED (B. Vale) shifted in slightly resulting in that gelding racing inside the hindquarters of DHOLIMA’S DAUGHER (D. Carney). Shortly after, DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER shifted in and away from ROSE OF SIENA (J. Nevin). In consequence BLUE TED was taken in onto THE RAMPAGER (D. Tootell) resulting in that gelding being tightened for galloping room and being forced to ease and lose its position. B. Vale was severely reprimanded by the Stewards and advised that he was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was solely responsible for this incident.

Stewards questioned T. Creek, rider of TAWTRICE, regarding the performance of that gelding today. T. Creek reported to Stewards that TAWTRICE had been caught three wide in the early and middle stages of the event and after being asked to go forward to improve its position in the vicinity of the 1200 metres, had become extremely reluctant to race and had failed to respond to his riding. T. Creek advised Stewards that he believed the gelding raced like a tired horse. Mr. R. Jolly, trainer of TAWTRICE, advised Stewards that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.

A veterinary inspection of TAWTRICE following the running of the race revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 5 : BRIEN’S ALBERTON HOTEL HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from FIELDS OF OMAGH, winner of the race.

Racing to the 1200 metres STORM REBEL (R. Wheeler) shifted in slightly resulting in YOUNG BLOOD (M. Hoppo) being taken in onto HAND PASS (J. Nevin). At this stage STRAITS CODE (D. Short), which had been racing on the inside of HAND PASS, had commenced to over-race. R. Wheeler was reprimanded by the Stewards and advised that under similar circumstances he would be required to give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled.

In the vicinity of the 1100 metres STORM REBEL (R. Wheeler) shifted in resulting in CARLIN (P. Gatt) being taken in onto ALL CHEER (B. Claridge) resulting in that gelding becoming unbalanced for a short distance. R. Wheeler was advised by Stewards of his obligations when shifting ground.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres STORM REBEL (R. Wheeler) shifted out resulting in CARLIN (P. Gatt) being taken out slightly. Shortly after CARLIN showed a tendency to shift out and away from STORM REBEL resulting in contact being made with HAND PASS (J. Nevin) which resulted in that gelding becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

RACE 6 : HILL SMITH STAKES

A swab sample was taken from ELATHEA, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres CAPPUCINE (W. Kerford) shifted in slightly onto the tiring SPINNING SILK (M. Clarke) resulting in that filly having to be eased. In consequence RAZZIA (P. Gatt) was hampered in avoiding the heels of the tiring SPINNING SILK. Shortly after PREMONISH (L. Smith) shifted in tightening JIMMY’S EDGE (J. Maund) who in turn was hampered. In consequence SPINNING SILK, which had been racing on the inside of JIMMY’S EDGE, was further hampered. Shortly after ZIP THEA (L. Nolen) rolled in resulting in JIMMY’S EDGE again being inconvenienced. Stewards took no further action as they believed no one rider was responsible.

JIMMY’S EDGE was subject to a veterinary inspection following the running of the race which revealed a minor wound to the near fore fetlock.

RACE 7 : LEG TRAP HOTEL HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from BOOGIE KNIGHT, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres EMPRESS WALTZ (J. Holder) shifted in resulting in ZED FILES (J. Bowditch) being taken in. Shortly after ZED FILES shifted in and away from EMPRESS WALTZ resulting in JEUNEOLA STAR (P. Gatt) being inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres BOOGIE KNIGHT (D. Carney) showed a tendency to over-race.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres PEPPI THE PUG (S. Cahill) shifted in slightly; at the same time AQUILINE (Darren Holland) shifted out slightly resulting in ASTROLANTE (J. Lorensini) being tightened for galloping room between those two horses.

JEUNEOLA STAR lost its off hind plate during the running of the race.

JEUNEOLA STAR suffered minor lacerations to both front legs during the running of the race.

A veterinary inspection of EMPRESS WALTZ following the running of the race revealed soreness in the lower back.

RACE 8 : TOP SHELF HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from DEVLIN’S BRIDGE, winner of the race.

EUBECHA (P. Gatt) jumped away awkwardly resulting in that gelding shifting in onto RICH THEME (Darren Holland), which had been slow to begin, resulting in RICH THEME being forced to lose its position.

I’M HONOR HIGH (NZ) (T. Creek) showed a tendency to over-race in the early stages of the event.
