Stewards questioned D. Tootell, rider of
KOLASE, in relation to his riding of that gelding over the concluding 200 metres of the

200 metres KOLASE had commenced to tire and as a result he had elected not to place the
gelding under undue pressure in the fear that KOLASE may become unbalanced and fail to
finish off the race. He further stated that over the concluding stages of the event, when
challenged by the eventual winner, PETITE ETOILE, he had drawn the whip in a back handed
fashion and struck the gelding on one occasion in an endeavour to make KOLASE finish off
the race. Stewards have adjourned their inquiry into the matter until 10.00 am on Tuesday,
