S. Treweek (Snow Hawk) was found guilty of a charge of
careless riding under AR137(a) in that passing the 200m he failed to make sufficient
effort to prevent his mount, which was shifting in, from shifting in further resulting in
In The Bag being crowded and losing the running to which h it was entitled. S. Treweek's
licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday 6 March 2002
and to expire on Thursday 14 March 2002 on which day he may ride. At the same point No
Tracks was inclined to lay in under pressure.
RACE 1: Skyline Stakes 1200m:
Choisir was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
RACE 2: Blue Haven Pools Birthday Card Stakes 1200m:
Another Misty and Omens were slow to begin.
Gypsy Mai got its head up and was reluctant to hold its
position when crowded for room shortly after the start by Palais, which shifted in.
Radiance Of Apollo had some difficulty obtaining clear
running in the early part of the straight.
Passing the 200m when struck with the whip Omens (L.
Beasley) ran out abruptly causing Triko to be checked. L. Beasley was severely reprimanded
and advised that in similar circumstances he must make more effort to keep his mounts
straight.
Near the 100m Another Misty hung in and hampered Gypsy Mai.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed Gypsy Mai was
lame in the near-fore leg.
When questioned, rider D. McLellan and trainer Mr E. B.
Murray were unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of See The Gold,
which, after covering ground during the race, weakened badly and finished distanced. A
post-race veterinary examination of See The Gold revealed no abnormality. A swab sample
was taken. Mr Murray was advised that See The Gold must barrier trial to the satisfaction
of the Stewards before it is permitted to race again.

At the start Cheverny jumped in the air and lost ground as
a result.

had to be steadied off the heels of Preferred Lies.

M. Usher (Norman's Way) pleaded guilty to a charge of
careless riding under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in approaching the
first turn when insufficiently clear of Danasia resulting in Danasia being checked. M.
Usher's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on 3/3/02 and to
expire on 14/3/02 on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty the Stewards took into
account that Danasia had got its head up and overreacted to the tightening. Danasia then
raced fiercely for some distance thereafter.
RACE 6: The Daily Telegraph Canterbury Guineas 1900m:
An objection was lodged by B. Prebble, rider of 2nd
placegetter, Pentastic, against Carnegie Express (J. Cassidy) being declared the winner
alleging interference passing the 500m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned
and bearing in mind the 2¾ lengths margin the Stewards dismissed the objection.
At a subsequent inquiry J. Cassidy was found guilty of a
charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that whilst riding his mount along rounding
the home turn he permitted Carnegie Express to shift in when insufficiently clear of
Pentastic resulting in Pentastic being crowded onto the running rail and being severely
checked. Harp Of Tara, Another Warrior and Rockley Opera, which were following, were
hampered in consequence. J. Cassidy's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period
to commence on Monday 11 March 2002 and to expire on Thursday 21 March 2002 on which day
he may ride.

out taking Valkyrian wider.

Express had sustained a laceration to the inside of the near-fore cannon.

in a distressed state and displaying a poor recovery rate. G. Boss stated that Heritiere

examination of Newquay revealed no abnormality. Stable representative Ms E. Candy,
representing trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse, undertook to report on the progress of Newquay in
the days subsequent.
When questioned concerning the improved performance of Red
Hannigan, Ms E. Candy, representing trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse, stated that Red Hannigan
had improved in its work since its first-up run on 9 February but in the view of the
stable the most significant factor in today's improvement was that it was racing on a
firmer surface.
