LATE
RIDING CHANGES:
App. L. Henry replaced App. K. Gillman
(indisposed) as the rider of Daunting Prospect in race 1, and L. Beasley replaced
J. Morris (injured) as the rider of Le Legionaire in race 5.
RACE 1: ADCO Constructions Handicap
1580m:
As no rider was available at the weight,
permission was granted for A. Thompson to ride Red Audi a ½kg overweight. A.
Thompson was fined $150. Shortly after the start Daunting Prospect shifted out
bumping Bearsden out onto Grenouille. D. McLellan explained that after that
incident Bearsden became fired up, overraced badly and as a result did not finish
its race off. Post-race veterinary examinations of Bearsden and Blueborough
did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J. Englebrecht indicated that he may now
remove the blinkers from Bearsden. Daunting Prospect, which was inclined to
lay out making the first turn, had to be steadied off the heels of Bearsden.
RACE 2: Clipsal Handicap 1900m:
On the home turn Blazing Arch had to
be steadied off the heels of Spurwood, which commenced to give ground. Post-race
veterinary examinations of Tipito and Spurwood, which both finished
distanced, did not reveal any abnormalities. Mr M. Fraser-Campin, representing trainer Mr
G. Rogerson, reported that Tipito had again failed to handle the heavy track today.
RACE 3: National Telecoms Group
Handicap 1200m:
Coffee Delight was slow to begin. For
some distance passing the 500m Zebithea was held up on the heels of Tivoli Danz.
Omens was momentarily held up on the home turn. Beryl ran out under pressure
over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Strategic
Miss G. Boss stated that his mount did not handle the going at any stage and he was of
the opinion also that the filly may have choked down and, therefore, he eased Strategic
Miss down over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination of Strategic Miss
did not reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken.
RACE 4: Aristocrat Superfecta 1200m:
Bright Eyed Boy and Tudor Heir
were slow to begin. Daneborogh shifted out at the start taking Joe The Stirrer
out onto Courvoisier, which became unbalanced and shifted out resulting in Mask
Of Time being forced across the heels of Thunder Time. Approaching the 600m Desert
Brave shifted out and bumped Speed And Class obliging that runner to race three
wide. Near the 400m and again close to the finishing line Mask Of Time ran out and
hampered Strawin. At the entrance to the straight Courvoisier shifted out
and bumped Speed And Class.
RACE 5: Tom Salter Surprise Handicap
1580m:
Murihiku shifted out at the start
taking Tree Lopper out causing Sadarar to be checked.
RACE 6: Bradley Australia Handicap
1580m:
Trainer Mr T. Ryan was reprimanded for
having notified J. Innes as the rider of 2nd emergency, My Vanity Fair
without confirming that engagement. App. M. Squires was substituted. An objection was
lodged by P. Falvey, rider of 4th placegetter, Burdekin Lass, against 3rd
placegetter, Jeune's Dynasty (G. Buckley), alleging interference approaching the
100m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the videos the Stewards
dismissed the objection when they found that whilst at that point Burdekin Lass had
to ease when Jeune's Dynasty shifted out under pressure and bearing in mind the
half-length margin between the horses at the finish they were not of the opinion that the
incident had materially affected the finishing positions. However, both riders were
reminded of their obligations to ride their mounts out right to the finishing line, and it
was pointed out to them also the possible ramifications in this incident of them having
failed to do so. Norlands was slow to begin. When questioned L. Cassidy (Unhook)
stated that the mare did not handle today's heavy track. Mr D. Smith, trainer of Miss
Varikos, which performed poorly, indicated that the mare would now be spelled.
Post-race veterinary examinations of Miss Varikos and Unhook did not reveal
any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from Miss Varikos.
RACE 7: Canterbury League Club
Handicap 1100m:
Paris Royale was a late withdrawal at
9.35am on veterinary advice that the mare was suffering from colic. Shortly after the
start Appian had to be checked when tightened for room between To The Moon
and Kwila, which got its head up and shifted in. App. S. Pollard (Viejo) was
reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 500m resulting in Silvoff
being taken in causing Leyenda to check momentarily. At the same point Kwila
got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Silvoff. Shortly after
entering the straight To The Moon became badly unbalanced and blundered resulting
in H. Bowman being dislodged when tightened for room between Al's Alibhai and Chief's
Treasure, which shifted out slightly. Silvoff, Leyenda and Viejo
were hampered in consequence.
RACE 8: Bulldogs Home Loans
Superfecta 1100m:
As H. Bowman was indisposed App. M. Squires
was substituted as the rider of Brooklyn Rocket. When questioned regarding the
disappointing performance of Rather Proud J. Cassidy stated that his mount did not
handle the going, which he believed was inferior on the inside, and was a beaten horse
prior to the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination of Rather Proud did not
reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken.
