An inquiry into the reason for the late declaration of P.
Gatt as the rider of Aragonce was adjourned.
GENERAL:
The Stewards ruled that the following deductions in the
dollar be made regarding pre-post betting:
Rosehill Gardens Saturday 9 March 2002: Race 6 Coolmore Classic 1500m: Suzy Grey 4¢
win, 5¢ place.
Flemington Monday 11 March 2002: Race 6 Australian Cup 2000m: Giovanni 4¢ win, 4¢
place.

As D. Beadman and D. McLellan were indisposed the following
rider substitutions were approved:

RACE 1: De Bortoli Wines Staff Handicap 1200m:
Trainer Mr C. Conners was fined $100 for failing to produce
the Document of Description for Palatial (AR59A).
Middlebrook reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
Fiammarosa was slow to begin.
Near the 600m Fiammarosa shifted in and made contact with
the running rail. It was subsequently reported that Fiammarosa had shifted its off-fore
plate.
Rounding the home turn Palatial shifted out to obtain clear
running taking Ideal Sin wider. Middlebrook and Barabella, which were following, were
hampered.
Fiammarosa hung out rounding the home turn and in the
straight resulting in its rider, L. Cassidy, being unable to fully test the filly.
Middlebrook raced greenly under pressure in the early part
of the straight.
A post-race veterinary examination of La Fraise revealed no
abnormality.
RACE 2: De Bortoli Wines Windy Peak Handicap
1200m:
Go Getter was a late withdrawal at 8.40am on veterinary
advice.
From The Cellar, which was slow to begin, was hampered on
jumping when crowded for room between Sounds Supreme and Shigeru Protector, which shifted
in and away from Hurricane Hayley.
Sequi was slow to begin.
Miss Goldie Hawn laid out in the middle stages.
Near the 500m Sounds Supreme (D. Beasley) lost its footing
in front and became badly unbalanced. D. Beasley stated that the filly then took a
considerable amount of time to get re-balanced, but then ran on well over the concluding
stages. A post-race veterinary examination of Sounds Supreme revealed no abnormality.
Near the 100m Quam Cleeriter shifted out to obtain clear
running and in doing so bumped Danebeam, which became momentarily unbalanced.
A post-race veterinary examination of From The Cellar,
which travelled wide throughout, revealed no abnormality.
It was reported that Maiscarber had suffered a bleeding
attack during running and will now incur an automatic three-month ban from racing (AR53A).
RACE 3: De Bortoli Wines Gulf Station Handicap
1100m:
Arathea was slow to begin.
Marwina Road was crowded for room shortly after the start
between Full Tan and Potter's Choice, which shifted out.
Panonia Prince and Say Goodnight were hampered near the 50m
when Modern was taken out by A Deena.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed Panonia Prince
to have a laceration on its tongue.
A post-race veterinary examination of Winabull revealed no
abnormality.
A. G. Robinson (Scotro) pleaded guilty to a charge under
AR118A in that after weighing out for this event he changed his riding boots. A. G.
Robinson was fined $200.
RACE 4: Pat Studders 20 Years De Bortoli Superfecta
1100m:
Plain Crazy was slow to begin.
Aubade, which was slow to begin, was crowded for room
shortly after the start by Lyee Moon, which shifted in.
Near the 400m Washington Girl had to be checked off the
heels of Plain Crazy and then had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early
part of the straight.
Viejo, which was badly held up for a run in the early part
of the straight, shifted in passing the 200m resulting in Dane Wiz being momentarily
crowded for room.
A post-race veterinary examination of Lyee Moon revealed no
abnormality.
RACE 5: De Bortoli Wines Sacred Hill Handicap
1100m
Alqsar and Ehorse were slow to begin.
At the start Desert Brave was crowded for room between
State Senator and Tara Express, both of which shifted ground.
Near the 500m Tara Express became unbalanced after being
briefly crowded for room by Desert Brave, which shifted in after being bumped by State
Senator.
Near the 150m Tara Express, which had been held up for a
run, shifted to the outside of the heels of Desert Brave, which also had been held up for
a run, resulting in Collaroy being crowded for room. A short distance later Desert Brave
(B. York) shifted out to improved around the heels of Alqsar resulting in Tara Express
being taken out and Collaroy being checked. B. York was advised to exercise greater care
when shifting ground.
Ehorse bled during running and will incur an automatic
3-month ban.
RACE 6: De Bortoli Wines Noble One Handicap 1550m
History Maker jumped awkwardly and shifted out
resulting in Moutarde being crowded for room.
Passing the 1000m Moutarde race greenly had to be checked
off the heels of Dolomites.
Bedouin shifted out under pressure in the straight.
RACE 7: Deen And Emeri De Bortoli Handicap 1250m
Mr G. Lee, representing trainer Mr J. Lee, was fined $50
for racing Mellecker without a nose roll, part of its declared gear.
Rounding the home turn Garland Prince was checked across
the heels of Count Albrecht when crowded for room by Fusser (App. S. Pollard), which,
after improving into a narrow run between Garland Prince and Au Naturale, was taken out
when Au Naturale (L. Cassidy) shifted out to obtain clear running. Let's Talk Treason,
which was following, was hampered in consequence. App. Pollard and L. Cassidy were advised
to exercise care when shifting ground.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of
Garland Prince, D. Beasley stated that his mount never really travelled well in the run
and after being crowded for room on the home turn did not finish the race off and was most
disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination
of Garland Prince revealed no abnormality. A swab sample was taken. Trainer Mr E. B.
Murray will be interviewed on a later date.
When questioned regarding the performance of Count Albrecht
J. Innes stated that although the horse was obliged to race wide, Count Albrecht
compounded at the entrance to the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Count
Albrecht revealed no abnormality. Trainer Mr J. O'Shea stated that although Count Albrecht
was obliged to race wide, he was nonetheless disappointing in the horse's performance. Mr
O'Shea undertook to barrier trial Count Albrecht prior to racing again.
RACE 8: De Bortoli Wines Yarra Valley Superfecta
1900m:
Kingwin was slow to begin.
Ripon By was unable to obtain clear running until passing
the 100m.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed Charo Style to
be lame in the off-fore leg. Trainer Mr N. Voigt was advised that a veterinary
certificate would be required before Charo Style is permitted to race again.
C. Munce (Lady Viola) was reprimanded for permitting his
mount to shift in passing the winning post on the first occasion resulting in Ausbred
being taken in onto Ripon By, causing both horses to be hampered. Strange and Bill's Buddy
were hampered in consequence.
