Weather: Fine
Rail: Normal Position.

RACE 1 – SHARON FORRESTER-JONES/SABIS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE

H. McKechnie replaced M. Hoppo as the rider of TIMELY FIRE owing to M. Hoppo being indisposed through injury.

C. Lindop was examined by the Club’s Surgeon prior to the running of this race and passed fit to fulfill her riding engagements.

RUBY SAL (W. Kerford) jumped away awkwardly.

TIMELY FIRE (H. McKechnie) dipped on jumping away.

Rounding the home turn EXPLETIVE (Darren Holland) shifted out to improve its position resulting in TIMELY FIRE (H. McKechnie) being taken out and brushing SIREN MISS (C. Symons). As a result TIMELY FIRE became unbalanced for a short distance.

Mr. S. Padman, trainer of RARE NICKEL, was advised that the mare was now banned from racing for a period of three months under ARR 53A after suffering a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the running of this race.

RACE 2 – RAVO’S MOONTA HOTEL, COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE

C. Symons replaced M. Hoppo as the rider of HILTON CROWN.

FULL GLOW (P. Gatt) jumped away awkwardly.

GREG (H. McKechnie) jumped outwards at the start resulting in contact being made with MAGICAL SPIRIT (M. Neilson) who in turn was taken out making contact with COUPE DE BLU (J. Bowditch).

Racing inside the 600 metres GREG (H. McKechnie), which was showing a tendency to lay in, shifted in slightly; at the same time PRINCE BLEV (J. Maund) rolled out, resulting in FULL GLOW (P. Gatt) being tightened for galloping room and having to ease. P. Gatt reported to Stewards that although receiving pressure, his mount was extremely reluctant to hold its position.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres GREG (H. McKechnie), which had continued to show a tendency to lay in, shifted in, resulting in that gelding being eased off the heels of PRINCE BLEV (J. Maund).

RACE 3 – COMMUNITY RACING SERVICES CLASS 3 HANDICAP

J. Nevin replaced M. Hoppo as the rider of AFTER BEUNE.

A swab sample was taken from ARADINA, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres ROMANTIC ENCOUNTER (T. Creek) commenced to race ungenerously and, whilst being eased, commenced to lose ground. In consequence GEORGIA GLOAMING (D. Tootell), which had been showing a tendency to over-race, was taken in slightly by COLIN’S SPECIAL (M. Clarke) and as a result GEORGIA GLOAMING was forced to severely check to avoid the heels of ROMANTIC ENCOUNTER and in doing so made contact with the running rail resulting in GEORGIA GLOAMING shifting out abruptly. As a result COLIN’S SPECIAL was hampered and forced wider on the track. MY SKY ROCKET (GB) (P. Gatt) and THRU THE TRAFFIC (J. Lorensini) were also inconvenienced in avoiding the heels of GEORGIA GLOAMING.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres J. Lorensini, rider of THRU THE TRAFFIC, dropped his whip. As a result that rider was fined the sum of $100 for carelessness.

GEORGIA GLOAMING lost its off hind plate during the running of the race.

ROMANTIC ENCOUNTER suffered a contusion to the off hind hock during the running of the race.

RACE 4 – TWO WELLS BP CLASS 1 HANDICAP

CROSS ME NOT (P. Gatt) was slow to begin.

RACE 5 – TWO WELLS HOTEL MOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP

J. Potter replaced M. Hoppo as the rider of JAZORSKY.

A swab sample was taken from LORD MILN, winner of the race.

BRIGHT ROCK reared as the gates opened resulting in that horse’s head hitting the superstructure of the stall. Darren Holland, rider of BRIGHT ROCK, was almost dislodged as a result of the incident.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres LORD MILN (C. Lindop) had difficulty in obtaining clear galloping ground for a short distance.

FREAK OUT lost its near fore plate during the running of the race.

Following the running of this race M. Clarke was examined by the Club’s Surgeon and ruled unfit to ride for the remainder of the day.

RACE 6 – FAMILY FUN DAY CLASS 5 HANDICAP

TEHRIER (J. Potter) and ZAHEEM (B. Claridge) were both slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres to inside the 100 metres ZAHEEM (B. Claridge) was disappointed for a run on the inside of OUR KING COUNTY (B. Vale) when that gelding was showing a tendency to lay in.

RACE 7 – SPRING SERIES (HEAT 1) COOPERS/SABIS FILLIES & MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP

D. Tootell replaced M. Clark as the rider of I LEICA and C. Symons replaced M. Hoppo as the rider of BUT FOR THE GRACE.

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres NEW STATUS (W. Kerford) shifted in when insufficiently clear of I LEICA (D. Tootell) resulting in that mare being taken in onto STRAWBERRY (S. Price), which resulted in that mare having to ease and lose its position. W. Kerford pleaded guilty to a charge of Careless Riding. Stewards advised that rider that they believed that the penalty imposed was a Class 1 penalty and taking into consideration his record and guilty plea, W. Kerford was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 17th October and to expire at midnight on Tuesday, 23rd October 2001; a period of one metropolitan meeting.

SHOWERS OF GOLD lost its near fore plate during the running of the race.

RACE 8 – WESTON MILLING/SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE

CORRETJA (NZ) (S. Price) was slow to begin.
