A win in
yesterday's $15,000 Tweed Bait Cup Super Qris Added Stakes at the Gold Coast track has
guaranteed Bill Mitchell's lightly raced colt Horrocks a start in Saturday week's Magic
Millions 2YO Classic. Mitchell decided to send
Horrocks for the softer option of the $15,000 race at the Gold Coast rather than clashing
with a small but select field in the $100,000 Tommy Smith Slipper at Doomben.
The decision reaped a great reward with another Mitchell
runner Sir Breakfast running third at Doomben behind million dollar filly Sunday Joy,
while Horrocks' effortless win also sealed his place.
With boom Brisbane apprentice Michael Rodd in the saddle,
Horrocks (2/7 fav) romped home to beat Nosey Man by two and a half lengths. Holly Bush
Lane (12/1) was a half neck away in third place.
Before yesterday's race Horrocks had started on two occasions
for a win at Caloundra and a 3.3 length last start second to boom Brisbane filly Calaway
Gal.
Michael Rodd has ridden the Strategic colt at each of his
three starts to date and he is expected to partner him again in a fortnight's time. |
