STOP PRESS: (06/02/02): Catchfire's daughter Flying Ella was won again.
Her latest win came today over 1550 metres at Canterbury in Sydney. She is now the winner
of three races. No Australasian bred thoroughbred has
been retired to stud with the expectation of success than the ten time Group One winner
Octagonal. And hasnt the "Big O" given his supporters plenty to smile at
as his youngsters being to make their mark on the track in Australia.
Last Saturday the sensational Lonhro sounded a warning he
was going to be hard to beat this preparation with a sensational first up Group Two win in
Sydney. It was his first start since a breathtaking win in the Group One Caulfield Guineas
a Guineas that was rated the best for over 30 years.
In Adelaide this month fans of Lonhro will think all of
their Christmas had come at once when lot 229 enters the ring at the Morphettville
Magic Millions complex.
Stunningly black just like his famous father, the colt from
Widden Stud looks set to spark off a bidding duel between all of the leading buyers.
Not only is this early September foaling a son of the
sensational Octagonal, but his dam was at her time one of the most exciting early
two-year-old fillies.
Catchfire, a daughter of the brilliant Century, earned a
big reputation when she won the Group Three Debutante Stakes at Caulfield. Another win at
two in the Group Two Maribyrnong Plate against the boys established Catchfire as a star at
two.
So far she has been represented by two runners on the track
five time winner Lady of Snows and recent winning Flying Ella (two wins to date).
Catchfire is a daughter of the Flemington stakes winner
Kilmarie, a mare who also threw the stakes winners I Love Sydney and Ride the Rapids.
From a family that also includes the impressive stakes
winners Winning Hand, Kouros and Lauriat, the Octagonal colt looks set to be one of the
stars of the sale.
Perhaps this fellow will add his name alongside Lonhro,
Hosannah, Omens, Evander, Pentathlon and Heptonstall as feature winners for Octagonal. |
