One of David
Peacocks biggest regrets in racing was the premature loss of his high class race
filly Be Discreet, who tragically died while undergoing surgery in Adelaide as a
three-year-old. Already a three time stakes winner in
both Adelaide and Melbourne, Be Discreet was matching it with the evergreen sprinter
Mahogany in Group Two class and was a bright shining light for the future.
Then suddenly it went all terribly wrong. The daughter of
Euclase, a Group One winner himself, looked set to establish herself as a star on the
track and later a very valuable broodmare.
Although her death was a tremendous loss for the racing and
breeding industry, her full sister would also prove to be an above average galloper and
now buyers have the chance to snap up her first foal at this months Adelaide Magic
Millions Yearling Sale.
Shes Discreet had big shoes to fill thanks to the
achievements of her talented and older sister. Thankfully for Peacock and the public in
general the talent was carried through to this younger filly by Euclase.
As it scripted for a fairytale Shes Discreets
best win came when she beat a top field of youngsters in the Group Three Dermody Stakes at
Cheltenham. The Dermody was also the feature win for Be Discreet.
Both Be Discreet and Shes Discreet are from the Queen
Adelaide Stakes winning mare Halo Again. What a job she has done so far at stud.
Her five runners to date have all shown great ability and
four are already stakes winners. As well as the Discreet daughters she is the dam of Group
Three winner Gilded Angel and three time Listed winner My Advocator.
Halo Agains latest foal to hit the track is the
highly promising Bluebird filly Oh So Discreet. Already a winner in Adelaide and Melbourne
she is a stakes winner in the making if ever there was one.
Shes Discreets first foal a bay colt by the
American Group Two winner Distorted Humor will go under the hammer during the first
session of the Adelaide Sale on February 18.
The SABIS and VOBIS qualified colt is from the first
Australian crop of Distorted Humor.
A son of Forty Niner, Distorted Humor won the Churchill
Downs Handicap (G2), Commonwealth Handicap (G2) at Keeneland and the Ack Ack Handicap (G3)
also at Churchill Downs, during an eight time winning career. |
