01/02/02 Adelaide Sale: The Snippets Story Isn't Over Yet
0121snippets.jpg (12274 bytes)The Australian industry suffered a huge loss last month when the evergreen former racetrack star and breeding king Snippets died.

The legacy of Snippets is sure to be felt for many years to come and any of the eight yearlings on offer in Adelaide this month could add another bright chapter to an already distinguished career for Snippets.

A Magic Millions winner himself, Snippets produces exceptional youngsters to the calibre of Snowland and Scandinavia and top three year olds like Akhenaton and Pins. His other topliners have included Sublimate, Spartacus, Mr Vitality, Suntain, Always Divine, Camena, Cheval Place, Solid Contact and Speedy Kids.

Snippets is represented by eight youngsters in Adelaide – five colts and three fillies and all are from strong female families.

His first offering is lot 2 and the Highgrove colt is a half brother to Debutant Stakes winner Rolling Dice and last season’s South African two-year-old winner Vance. The colt is from the family of Group One winner Risen Star.

Offered by local breeder Ian Barton’s Kanowna Stud lot 68 is an August colt who is from an unraced Danehill mare who is a half sister to a New Zealand Group Winner. That horse was shipped to Hong Kong where he also proved a classy performer. The colt is from a prolific two-year-old winning family.

Lot 95 is a bay filly from Rothwell Park Thoroughbreds who like many brilliant racehorses is from a well bred unraced mare. Her dam Smytzer’s Roylani is a daughter of the former sizzling speedster Paklani who is by the top sire Royal Academy. She is closely related to this season’s stakes placed youngster Disect.

The final offering on the first day of the sale if a bay colt catalogued as lot 147. The bay colt is a full brother to stakes galloper La Snippette. He is from the French Group Three placegetter Veronique, who is the daughter of an American stakes winner.

Buyers have a while to wait before lot 319 enters the ring for Wingen based Murrulla Stud. The filly is from a lightly raced Grosvenor mare who is a half sister to the dual Listed winner and Group placed Superior Arch. A grandaughter of Group winner Parisian Romp.

Three lots later lot 322, a bay colt from Byerley Stud, is up for grabs. The colt is a three quarter brother to dual Group placed Brooke’s Express, a winner at two in Melbourne. He is the first foal of a grandaughter of top two-year-old Idol Worship. From the million dollar family of Schubert.

Another member of the Byerley draft is the bay filly – lot 332. A daughter of the Protos stakes placed performer How Sweet She Is, this filly is closely related to current WA star Royal Retrieve. Her dam is a three quarter sister to Count the Cash and half sister to (My) Blue Kingdom.

The final Snippets on offer comes from the famed nursery of Collingrove Stud. Lot 392 is a chestnut colt who is from the lightly raced Marscay mare Maybelline. His dam is a half sister to Raising Kentucky, a stakes winner who ran third in the VRC Derby. Closely related to one of Snippets’ best performers – the Hong Kong based Solid Contact.

Make sure you don’t miss out on grabbing yourself a youngster by the ill-fated Snippets – your opportunities are fast running out!

STOP PRESS: Lot 392 ex Maybelline has been withdrawn.
