The riders of
Gai Waterhouse's four Magic Millions 2YO Classic runners for Saturday week have been
confirmed. Both Chuckle, a winner over Lovely
Jubly at Rosehill on Saturday, and Sunday Joy, the Tommy Smith Slipper winner have now got
confirmed riders after leading jockey Brian York decided Chuckle would be his mount.
York's decision leaves Lenny Beasley to partner the John
Singleton owned Sunday Joy.
Chris Munce, who won last year's running of the race with the
Waterhouse trained Excellerator, will partner the favourite Snowland. That youngster
blitzed his rivals with an impressive win in Sydney on Tuesday.
The remaining Waterhouse runner Obsessions will be ridden by
Jim Cassidy. Last start Obsessions ran third (in a field of four) to Sunday Joy and Sir
Breakfast in the Tommy Smith Slipper at Doomben.
Jockey Brian York will be hunting for his third win in the
race. After winning his first Millions in 1990 aboard St Jude, York doubled his tally when
he partnered Our Fiction to a win three years later.
Fellow riders Jim Cassidy and Chris Munce will also be
looking for their third victory in the Classic. Cassidy has won on Dancer's Joy (1990) and
Catnipped (1998), while last year's winning rider Munce won his first in 1989 aboard the
33/1 pop Sunblazer.
No rider is the race's history is yet to become a winner
three times. |
