jockey Stathi Katsidis was thinking he had an undeniable chance of winning the Magic
Millions 2YO Classic, but suddenly his dream seemed over. However, today that hope was back when he picked up the ride aboard
Horrocks, an impressive last start winner on the Gold Coast.
Katsidis was the rider of the exciting youngster Dynamic
Dancer, which went amiss when he was beaten as an odds on favourite in the JF Meynink
Stakes in Brisbane on December 15.
At his previous start the John Wallace trained son of
Danehill Dancer scored an incredible win over Star of Florida on October 13.
Today Katsidis' chances of winning the million dollar event
were revived when he was snapped up by Bill Mitchell for the ride on Horrocks.
Horrocks cemented his place in the field with a runaway win
in the Tweed Bait Cup (1200m) at the Gold Coast last Saturday when ridden by boom
Queensland apprentice Michael Rodd.
After a debut win at Caloundra the Strategic colt ran into
the exceptionally talented Calaway Gal at Doomben on December 8 and got within 3.3
lengths, her smallest winning margin to date.
Coincidentally Katsidis has been the regular rider of Calaway
Gal who is an early fancy for the Golden Slipper in Sydney later this year.
Meanwhile, in further Magic Millions news talented Queensland
jockey Glen Colless has been booked to ride the Dean Lawson trained Cool Trent in the
Classic. |
