Brian Park will always remember his first day riding at
Morphettville after bagging two of the feature races.
Early in the day he picked up the ride on Troubles to win
the Group 2 Yallambee Stakes, while later on he flashed home along the rails on Firetaine
to win the lead-up to the Adelaide Cup - the Group 3 Carlton Draught Stakes (2500m). Until
today, Park have never tasted success at Group level.
"I like it here," declared Park after his Group
double.
"There was a strong pace in the race which suited and
he had the run of the race. He just sneaked through along the fence and won well."
Firetaine's win will also be remembered by young trainer
Stuart Webb, who also broke his Group maiden status. Webb, who trains at Cranbourne, has
had the Adelaide Cup in mind for Firetaine after a 3000m win at Moonee Valley in March.
"Six months ago he was a Class 3 winner at
Tatura," Webb said.
"But hes been a real slow maturing type and has
just improving all the time. Hes related to some Group winners and hes bred to
run a journey."
Firetaine was unlucky in the Group 3 Rain Lover Plate last
start when runner-up behind Yammer but had no troubles in the run today.
He will now go straight into the Cup in nine days time
where he has just 50.5kg.
