Talented juvenile Blur proved far too classy for his
opposition in the $60,000 smoke-free Stakes (1100m) on Derby Day at Morphettville in
Adelaide today.
The gelding, prepared by Colin Little, started an
odds-favourite on the strength of his runs last time in behind the likes of Innovation
Girl, Choisir and Lovely Jubly.
"He was a little slow to begin but it probably proved
a blessing," winning rider Damien Oliver said.
"He had a soft run along the rail and took a while to
get going but once the split came he went through for a soft win. It was like a track
gallop in the end."
Little took the punt of not working the galloper since he
arrived in Adelaide more than a week ago.
"The last hit-out he had was the previous
Saturday," Little said.
"After the trip over I didnt want to gallop him
during the week, so all hes done is beach work up at Cheltenham."
Although Blur has raced just five times, he has now
campaigned in four states and was resuming since finishing fifth in the rich Magic
Millions Classic on the Gold Coast in January.
"He had eight weeks in the paddock after the Gold
Coast," Little said.
"Weve set him for the races in Adelaide because
they looked good options for him. His next start will be in the Jansz in nine days
time."
The Jansz is a Group 3 race over 1200m worth $100,000.
