Sir Patrick
Hogan had all but given up on Lashed in the Listed Alcohol Go-Easy Stakes (1500m) before
she turned in an amazing performance to win. The
filly, prepared by Graeme Rogerson, missed the start by a number of lengths and at one
stage was half-a-dozen lengths from the second-last horse, but rounded up the field to
score impressively.
"After seeing her tailed off I put down my glasses and
had given up on her," Hogan said.
"She turned in an amazing effort to win."
Jockey Stephen Baster also almost gave up on the filly and
couldnt believe he had won the race.
"She was standing in the barriers for a long time and
missed the start hopelessly," Baster said.
"She was a bit scratchy in her action and the others
were so far in front I nearly pulled her up. But she started to gain momentum so I hooked
her out wide and she picked them up fairly quickly."
The filly will now be aimed at the $100,000 Group 3 Sires
Produce Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on May 18. |
