Race 5 - Onkaparinga Cup 2150m
Oxford Dollar settled well back. Around the turn Oxford Dollar started his run but had
to wait for a gap between the leaders as The Hind went to the outside. By the 200m Oxford
Dollar burst through to the lead as The Hind ran on down the outside. In the run to the
line Oxford Dollar fought on strongly to draw away winning by 1 1/2 lengths from The Hind
with Little Neeco third.
Race 6 - Great Eastern Steeplechase
Crafty Dancer settled in front from Port Campbell then Hibernian Prince followed by Our
Profiler and Jarl. Down the home straight on the first of three laps Jarl led with Crafty
Dancer then Our Profiler and Nautilism with Ballata out wider. Soon after the start of the
second lap Jarl led Ballata and Crafty Dancer then Port Campbell followed by Our Profiler
and Nautilism. Down the straight the second time Jarl led Nautilism and Ballata then
Hibernian Prince with Holster very wide on the track. Over the fallen log on the final lap
Jarl led Our Profiler as Nautilism stumbled on landing followed by Ballata then Hibernian
Prince. On straightening Jarl kicked clear of Nautilism who had stumbled again after the
second last then Crafty Dancer racing tightly with Hibernian Prince with Ballata starting
to run on. By the 200m Nautilism joined Jarl but Ballata stormed between them from
Hibernian Prince and Crafty Dancer. In the run to the line Ballata raced away to win by
three and a half lengths from Hibernian Prince with Nautilism third and Jarl fourth.
Race 7 - Clipsal Hcp 1400m
Newtown Jet settled towards the rear of the field. Though wide Newtown Jet was
travelling well and moved up just behind the leaders approaching the home turn. On
straightening Newtown Jet joined Stora Bollar before racing away in front. Over the final
200m Newtown Jet was challenged by Mr Gweilo and To Pay Up but had plenty in reserve to
win by 1 1/4 lengths from To Pay Up with Mr Gweilo third. Newtown Jet is a US import from
Strawberry Girl in turn sired by champion racehorse and sire Strawberry Road.
Race 8 - Alcohol Go-Easy Hcp 1050m
Intrepid Astronaut settled just behind the pace. Soon after the start Dayna's Pride
appeared to run out of room between Price of Love and a horse who appeared to become
unbalanced before drifting away from the rail sharply. This resulted in a nasty fall where
Cheree Buchiw was airlifted to hospital in Adelaide (Dayna's Pride escaped serious
injury). Around the turn Intrepid Astronaut started to run on setting out after the leader
Cullen Bay by the 250m. Intrepid Astronaut joined and headed Cullen Bay to win by a length
with Onyx River flying home late for third.
